Chase Freedom Mastercard application?

Postby beef.stu » Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:16 pm

When I look at the applications for the Freedom from both the Mastercard and VISA websites, the applications that they take me to look exactly the same.

I want the Freedom Mastercard version of the card, but I worried that even if i follow the link from the mastercard website that I might end up with a visa. How did those of you that have the mastercard version of the freedom end up with it?

You will definitely get MC version of Freedom if you apply directly from MC website. I got MC Sapphire that way.

My Freedom started out as Visa (applied from Chase directly). A simple message and it was converted to MC Freedom.

Word of advice: Visa offers more benefit than MC (both Platium level and NPSL level).
In My Wallet:
Citi Forward (12/2010) | Citi TY Preferred (05/2011) | Chase Freedom (11/2011) | GECRB/PayPal (05/2012)
Discover it (07/2012) | AMEX BCP (09/2012) | TD/Target REDCard (10/2012) | Chase Ink Classic (11/2012)
BofA BBR (04/2013) | FNBO/Overstock.com (02/2014) | Barclaycard Arrival (04/2014) | FIA/Fidelity AMEX (04/2014)

I applied for mine from the mastercard site. I had a couple of monthly bills that didnt accept VISA, so I got the mastercard version with the eventual goal of getting the CSP in VISA form so I can have one of each to use chases awesome rewards program. :D

My wife and I have the Chase Freedom Mastercard, which I think is kind of rare around this board since most people get the Visa and it's talked about often in the CCF blog. In my case, the reason it's a Mastercard at all is because my wife's original Chase Slate began its life as a Mastercard before we got married. We only asked to have it upgraded to a Freedom last month, and it remained a Mastercard (as anticipated). There don't seem to be any difference in features between the two outside that some retailers with marketing arrangements with either Mastercard or Visa will refuse the accept the competing card. It's still pretty rare, but every now and then you have a situation where you truly need a Mastercard or Visa specifically versus either.
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

If I currently have the Freedom Visa, can I still get the Mastercard version? If yes, is the $1500 spending limit per quarter on 5% categories separate between the two cards?

I'm just curious, not really looking to get it.

Bank of America Better Balance Rewards MC: $25/quarter bonus
Barclaycard Rewards Visa Signature: 2% gas, groceries, utilities

I always wondered about this myself. I'm looking to add a MC to my card mix and I've heard its possible to have both versions of the Freedom.

How do you know? I've seen posts by people on MyFico who say they've been able to get both versions.

What post? Citi is the only one that allows you to hold multiple of the same product, and that is achieved by browser trick (applying two cards at split second).
