Freedom Categories Announced For Next Year

Here is 2013's 5% up to $1,500 Categories:

Q1: Gas Stations, Drug Stores, & Starbucks

Q2: Restaurants & Movie Theaters

Q3: Gas Stations, Theme Parks, & Kohls

Q4: "Select" Department Stores & Amazon

2013 Chase Freedom rewards categories

I am gonna do the same. But I was waiting for a big purchase to take advantage of the 0% intro as well as the $100 sign up bonus. I believe they are still running those promos.

I don't like the "select" department stores though. That seems kind of lame.

Yea, but in their defense the department store is a very broad term because where everyone perceives Macys, Nordstroms, Bloomingdales as department stores there are people who swear Target is a department store, so hopefully the "Select" will be helpful clear up things.

Awesome! 2013 categories are looking even better than 2012 -- looks like my Freedom is going to be seeing a little bit more action in the months to come.

I thought people would be disappointed that groceries wasn't on there.

I will be very happy if Discover adds groceries to one of the quarters that doesn't have gas.

Gasoline and Amazon are the only two categories of interest to me. In each I could earn 2% more than I already do all year. Next year Freedom could earn me an extra $20, at best, from these two categories. It almost doesn't seem worth the bother since I have BCP for gasoline, Chase Amazon, and Cash+ for restaurants. It's not likely that I would benefit from switching Cash+ from restaurants to another 5% category during the second quarter either.

Yeah, that's going to be the determining factor for just how excited I will be. Best case scenario, Discover offers 5% on restaurants while Chase offers 5% on gas and vice versa, with those two categories being the vast majority of my regular spending. I personally only pick up groceries once in a blue moon so it's not really a big deal for me.

By the way American, where did you find this information? I briefly checked my account online and didn't really see any mention of it.
