Question Citi Diamond Preferred MC: Any thoughts?

    Hello everyone.

Any thoughts on the Citi Diamond Preferred Mastercard? I have been receiving the invitation for the last six months but have been ignoring it.

That is due to the fact that the cards I have are AMEX and Mastercard. I already closed down my VISA card (Capital One) due to skyrocketed APR. And... I'm thinking to get a VISA card just in case I encounter an establishment that only accepts VISA card.

Is Citi Diamond Preferred MC a good card? I have been using a Household card MC to supplement my AMEX card.

Have been thinking of getting either the Citi Dividend Platinum VISA card or Citi Platinum Select VISA card.

    What does everyone think? Opinions?

You won't find a decent establishment that only takes Visa, for a very good establishment those places will take Mastercard, in addition to Visa.

From what I hear the Citi Dividend is a really good card. I really don't know too much about the card but you can do this, try it out for a year if you don't like, if it's not the card for you just pick up the phone and tell them you want to cancel it., but from what I hear the Citi card is a very good card.

I'm not to familiar with the Diamond card, I'm not sure if there's even an annual fee on this card. To me it looks more like an executive card, a higher level, but I'm not sure.

I have been with Citibank for years and they have always been a great credit card. I have had the Platinum Select, Dividend Platinum, the Diamond, and now the Thank You card. Citibank likes to switch your account/card around. When I inquired as to why, they stated that I no longer belonged in that credit group, kind of like car insurance. I have never utilized any of their services (concierge, roadside, etc) as I have always used American Express for those things. One thing that Citibank has over American Express is a buyer's protection, so if you find the same product cheaper within 60 days they reimburse you the difference (not on all their cards, Thank You is one of them).

I primarily used Citibank over the years to bounce balance transfers around in the early 90's. Back then you could never pay any interest if you played your credit cards right. I found that their customer service/balance transfer department were always really helpful when I'd call in the middle of the night and they were bored waiting for customers. And asking them how THEY are doing, actually made a difference. Go figure. You be nice to them, and they turn around and be nice to you.

I have the card and although I don't currently use it because there are no rewards, or maybe there are some type of thank you points that probably aren't a good deal, the card was always very good for me. They gave me a pretty good initial credit limit, ~$20k, and routinely increased it without asking. I used it mainly for a balance transfer about 4 years ago, I'm not sure if it was called Diamond then or not. I don't usually pay interest, but the card has a pretty low interest rate for whatever reason, <6%.

Citi was easy to deal with and unlike BoA which used to deny transactions almost daily, now maybe once every week or two, Citi always put charges through and if there was a problem my cell would ring before I was done paying.

The Citi Diamond black card looks great, and I prefer MC over Visa as there are a very few places that don't take Visa. I like using BoA a lot more though because pending transactions appear immediately, the accounts are in line with my checking accounts, and payments are easy although still take 1-2 days which I find ridiculous.

You Sir have failed to realise how many establishments stop accepting MasterCard during the Olympics (at the host city). Visa pays a good sum of money to the IOC in order to accomplish this.
