Question What credit card should I get?

I am looking to get a new credit card. i have the Discover More card and i really like it. but i am looking to expand. i see a lot of people saying that they have been denied for Discover cards, and their credit scores are higher than mine (633) but I only got approved for $1700 though.

ive been trying to decide between a Bank of America Credit card, the Chase Freedom, Citi Dividend, or the Costco AMEX. what card should I get?

All of these say Excellent credit is required, but like i said, i got the discover card with my credit score.

Absolutely not the aqua/costco american express card. this is the worse credit card to have. If you have a costco membership I recommend your own personal american express card instead.

I would say from your list Bank of America is a very good card, the citi dividend looks like a great card certainly both are better than that aqua / costco american express.

I'm glad to hear you like your Discover. which design do you have? I have the original black.

What type of rewards are you looking for so OP will have a better idea on what to recommend. For example...if you spend a few hundred a month on groceries and gas...you may want to look at the Amex Blue Cash Preferred. Just clarify what you will use the card for mainly....

    .
So do you have any other credit cards besides Discover? If not, then I would recommend a Visa or MasterCard. I am not sure what Money Card has against the Costco True Earnings Amex; however, you do not want to have only a Discover and Amex since they are not accepted everywhere.

Some things to consider: most reward cards are Visa Signature or World MasterCard. Because these are No Pre-set Spending Limit cards, many banks do not report the credit limits. While this is not entirely a horrible thing, if you do not have many other cards with reporting limits, what little debt you carry can seriously eat away at your debit to credit ratio. Of course, most banks require at least a $5K limit to be approved for the World or Signature cards. Citibank has recently begun to report their Visa Signatures and World MasterCards as Revolving with a credit line; however, BofA and Chase do not. Again, this won't be a problem at first since you likely would not get a $5,000 limit up front.

So it really comes down to how you use your cards and what rewards you are after. Chase Freedom and Citibank Dividend are pretty similar (1% everyday with quarterly 5% bonus offers on catagories that rotate such as gas, groceries, travel and home improvement). Bank of America recently introduced a new BankAmericard Cash Reward card that gives 1% on everything and then 2% on groceries and 3% on gas (yearly limit of course). I am not sure what their requirements for approval are and if they offer a non-Signature version with a lower limit.

I like the cash back. i dont really fo alot of traveling, so the miles rewards doesnt interest me. i dont use my cards that much, unless im going on a trip or buying a really big purchase. i dont spend anywhere close to a couple hundred a month on my cards.

Why is the aqua/costco the worst? and i started with the grey card with the orange lining, then i changed to the shamrocks, since green is my favorite color.

Let's say you have a gold card, a few years later you sign up for a costco red star membership card which lets you in the store with your picture. a few years later you wanted to change your gold to aqua/costco american express. let's say you have a 1992 membership on the card. let's say the service goes down, items are all over the place the food isn't as good as it use to be. so now you want to cancel your costco membership, your american express is good all over but what do you think would happen to your aqua card?

let's say you did get the aqua card. it's free with your paid membership of 50 bucks. let's say at a few malls your card gets stolen quite a few times and you want to change to the blue cash or clear but keep the same member since date, what do you think American express would say?

let's say your company relocates from Virginia to a small town in Oregon and your closest costco is 300 miles away. you have the aqua card with a membership date of 1992 on it and you have the membership card that let's you in the store. I would assume you can call american express tell them about your relocation and they would have no problem canceling your red membership card. but when you go out to eat or shopping don't you want to use your co-branded card? this is why the card is stupid.

1 you would loose your aqua card. once you un-hook your costco card you would lose your costco credit account.

2 you wouldn't be allowed to change your aqua card to any level american express. all you would be allowed to do is cancel your aqua card and then you could apply for a blue cash or clear but you wouldn't have the 1992 membership date on it, you would have the current year on it. There's no back dating with the aqua card as there is with their own cards.

3 once you relocate and the costco store is 300 miles away and you have the aqua costco american express, when you call to cancel your red membership card, you wont be allowed to buy portland trailblazer tickets, you won't be allowed to go shopping or out to eat since the credit card is no good now.

this is why I say the card is stupid. even though you never canceled your aqua card, it's an american express card which can be used all over once your red card is gone. so I would suggest your own personal card, then if 1 of these 3 things happen you can keep your own american express and just get rid of your costco card.

this why I would say the citi dividend is a wonderful card and so is the bank of america, much better than aqua/costco american express.
