Default Hello Kitty credit card is a terrible idea!

My girlfriend is sooo frick’n stupid. She saw the Hello Kitty credit card designs from Bank of America and filled out an application for checking/savings and the CC because she likes Hello Kitty. Maybe I am a guy and don’t understand but why would you make financial decisions based on the design of a credit card??!!

    -Platinum Plus Visa
-The rewards are only 1 point per $1
    -APR is 12.99% to 20.99%

Please, how can I explain to a girl that she can’t make important decisions based on having a damn kitty on the card. Realize that this is a person I have been with for a year and a half and marriage is a very real possibility. It scares me to think that my potential wife might want to do something like pick out a more expensive mortgage because she likes their mascot or spokesperson. Not hating on her Hello Kitty obsession but the credit card does seem like a crapola choice given the low rewards and that it was motive enough to make her entirely switch banks!

Swap out the BofA card for your bank's card and throw a Hello Kitty sticker on it.

The BofA card is OK (1 point for $1 charged) if she doesn't carry a balance.

    Ha! I like your thinking!

I went a took a look at the Hello Kitty credit card and it's not that bad. If she is all about card design than you may want to have her look at the Discover More card because it has dozens of designs (including a pink one) to choose from. The drawback though is that the APR probably won't be any better so it is not a card to carry a balance on. The 5% cash back it offers though is a good deal if you use it the right way.

i don't think it's a girl thing...i had an ex during college who applied for a j.crew credit card because they were giving out j.crew laundry bags, and a chase visa because they were giving out a subway series beach towel (mets v yanks). i think there are worst cards then the hello kitty card, but you should get to know her financial upbringing as that will definitely play into how she views credit and if she is the one then you will want to make sure you understand where you guys are simpatico and where you guys differ on credit and financial responsibility.
