Thread: Mastercard Titanium Credit Card?

Are titanium credit cards really better than platinum? Over in India the major banks (Citibank, HFDC, ICIC) all issue a titanium Mastercard. I have lived and worked in the United States ever since graduate school though when at home last my friend informed me this class of credit cards was considered to be very prestigious and high luxury.

Titanium is a material and platinum is a level. I can't answer your question your comparing a material to a level.

I do not view most MasterCard/Visa Platinum cards as high caliber cards. Both of my financial institutions have "Platinum Cards" as what I consider a "basic" level. While above student or secured cards they offer no exclusive bonuses or much (if any) in the way of rewards.

From what I can tell some MC/Visa issuers started releasing "Platinum" cards after Amex's Platinum card gained a reputation for being "high end". However, they never attached the "good stuff" on the card. It is more of a marketing ploy: "People will use a card that says Platinum more than a card that says basic."

This ploy does not usually work on people that have more practical approach to credit cards. I (and I suspect most of this boards members) use cards with a purpose (rewards, establish credit, reestablish credit). If it was the best reward for my type of spending it could have "<add your most embarrassing image here>" and I would hope I would use it.

If we are talking Amex Platinum then that is a different story. Yes that is a much more "high caliber" card.

Directly from MasterCard International's website: "Singapore was the first market to launch the Titanium card, and the program has since been rolled out across 20 markets in the region. In addition to Singapore, there are now Titanium card programs in Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka Taiwan, Thailand and UAE."

If you Google Image MasterCard Titanium it appears to be a normal credit card except that some are bowed out instead of a normal rectangle shape. It appears to be nothing more than a marketing deal. For instance, in most countries, they have Visa Infinite instead of our Visa Signature.

People are like cats at Christmas. If it is shiny and bright, they will be attracted to it even if there is very little substance.

Uhh, platinum is also a material and titanium can be a level if someone wants to make it that way. It's all branding.

I would not say any card is better than any other except for the benefits it gives you personally. I doubt anyone will be impressed by teh card you carry, except of course yourself.
