I would agree with the general consensus that so-called "platinum" cards as a higher caliber card. Everything is platinum at this point -- gold of course has no real meaning as well, though every time I see a gold card (excluding AMEX) I automatically think sub-prime. (I do have a "gold" card to rebuild my credit. And I don't have a real reason why I exclude AMEX mentally.)
They should really standardize card tiers a bit more...based off benefits, annual fee (or the lack thereof), credit limit, class (student, rebuilder, etc.), and so on. lol
