Default Just got approved for a Chase Freedom!

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and new to building up my credit. Within the past couple days I have done a lot of research on how to get a good credit card after foolishly applying for an AmEx card on my first try.

This forum has been a great help for me, especially with the backdoor reconsideration numbers.

I'm 21 years old with a very thin file, but I do have an old collections account from when I was 19 and had an unpaid medical bill. After applying with AmEx they told me I had a 659 Experian FICO score and not enough credit history to be approved for their Blue card.

I applied for the Chase Freedom last night and got their polite dismissal response saying they would contact me withing 7-10 business days.

However I called their backdoor recon line and spoke to a couple very polite people who reviewed my application and approved me. It's not a high CL, but I'll take it since it's my first card!

Do you think I should call an AmEx backdoor and ask them to recon me for their zync card or an easier to get one?

What number are y'all calling when you call for the recon? How long is it best to wait after being denied to call for a recon?

When I was denied I called the application status the same day I submitted the application, usually when I see the 7-10 days message it means, no... At the moment my EQ Fico was 695 but I had very recent inquiries. After a few minutes on the phone and explaining why those inquiries were there (got a car loan in Jan) I was approved with a $1,200 CL

Don't feel bad, my fico is 695 and I got the same APR... Remember that APR is not a problem unless you're planning to carry a balance which you should try not to, or at least carry it on a card with a lower APR
