Default Chase Sapphire versus Amex Premier Rewards Gold

Are these cards pretty much the same thing ? Chase Sapphire has no fee and with Amex it's 175 ? Seems like both cards give you points for everything you buy which allows you to use them for airline points or gift cards etc. Let me know if I am missing something here.

You're not. Amex is a brand, perhaps one of the top 10 brands of all time. Chase is gunning for them and is definitely starting to outclass them on the customer service front.

I'd say the only difference is that you can return a purchase with Amex. But you can sort of do the same thing with Visa by disputing the charge....

Below are sponsored reviews for both cards. Generally speaking, the Premier Rewards Gold is more beneficial for frequent travelers. For all others the no annual fee Chase Sapphire would be a better choice in my opinion.

Are there any differences with redemption options between Chase Sapphire and American Express premier rewards gold when the points are redeemed for airline tickets. Are there any pros or cons of going with one over the other for this purpose?

I believe when redeeming with chase points for airfare I believe you have to go through there website, If you want to redeem for gift cards you would have to ask them how do you go about that. as far as the gold reward premier card I'm not sure of how you would redeem for airline miles. But chase is through their site.

With Sapphire if you book your travel through Ultimate Rewards you get 25% increase in spending power - i.e. $100 buys you $125 worth of travel. With AmEx Gold you can convert points to FF mile programs and that might be worth more if you do it wisely, because real airline miles tend to be worth more than a penny. It really all depends how you plan on converting your points (airfare? cruises? hotels?)
