Barclaycard Arrival+ not automatically upgrading to World Elite

Postby tschmelcher » Thu May 15, 2014 7:35 am

Just an FYI to other forum members that have the card formerly known as the Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard with-AF. It has already been automatically upgraded to the Barclaycard Arrival+ in my account online now that they have rebranded and improved it, but it looks like I am not automatically getting the World Elite status that new cardholders would get. The card benefits info in my account still says it is just a World MasterCard, and the card art has been updated to a new design that says "arrival+" but has "World" at the bottom-right above the coloured MasterCard logo. By contrast, the card art on the application page has a silver logo with no text above it.

I'm going to call Barclaycard to ask if they can upgrade me to World Elite.

Secure message said no, but Twitter confirmed my card will be upgraded to WEMC on 5/28.

I had to call in to 866-558-1107. Confirmed that I am being upgraded to a WEMC and already have all the perks attached to the account. I'm having a Chip&PIN version of the original Arrival mailed out for use on our trip. The Arrival+ WEMC will be shipped out on May 28

Thank you for sharing the number I will call as well I really want the WEMC version. I don't want to have to app for it later so thank you I will call as well and see.

Well I just called in and was told the upgrade wasn't automatic as we knew, so I asked if the card could be, and they tried to transfer me to the "credit department" which the computerized voice said was now closed so I just hung up.

I don't use twitter as I don't want to bore the world to death I do enough of that here. So, I guess no upgrade for me.

I called in 3 times today and was told would be standard World Standard mastercard and that no option to convert to World Elite for Arrival annual fee paying customers. Existing members would have to apply new ! This is ridiculous as 1 rep told me would be Elite next said standard. For reference if you apply new you get World Elite and the World Standard is for the non annual fee version !

This is poor customer service and a bad move in my opinion on the side of Barclaycard who are basically switching existing customers to a card that can't even be applied for and has the same level of Mastercard perks as the non annual fee card.

Hoping someone can clear this up because in my opinion all current Arrival (annual fee paying) customers should be upgraded to the new card with the same options as applying new, not being told to close account and re-apply.

I agree why should you have to apply for a new card. I can't apply for anything even if I wanted to right now, and I don't want to - we shouldn't have to.

I guess it's Barclay's prerogative to treat existing customers like this, and it's our prerogative to assign them to the sock drawer or close them down. Just the way it goes.

Called today and was told my Arrival (AF) became Arrival Plus WMC and I was not "selected" for W Elite MC upgrade, I would have to apply for it.
10 mins later to my surprise I received a call saying that I was in fact "selected" for the upgrade to W Elite MC but it won't be until 05/28 and they will ship the card on 06/01. :oooo

Could not agree with you more. Was looking forward to putting a crappier WEMC into the sock drawer in favor for thew updated Arrival but after this move by BC thinking I may just move spend elsewhere. Ridiculous to think existing paid customers are getting treated this way with a card that is basically a hybrid ! Suggest any other members that agree call into customer service ask for supervisors or management and log their displeasure, not a good move BC !

@Lex
What was the trick ? Either I'm doing something wrong here or you have found the sweet spot ! Very frustrated with BC handling of this to say the least and it seems very hit and miss with a lot of mis-information.

I'm going to wait and see with mine. If they don't upgrade it, and I call and can't convince them to, then I really don't need it, and it will be closed.

I want to give them a chance though. But in the end, they'll make their choices and I'll make mine.
