Denvercent
Interesting what you heard as over on the flyertalk forum there is a thread on this where someone close to Barclays is stating that those new applicants being approved with credit lines in the $250 to $1700 (low credit lines) are getting the World Elite. Not a good move for existing customers with higher lines, longer history and brand loyalty

denvercenturion wrote:Just spoke to an agent with Barclaycard, he said there was no criteria to explicitly meet and there are no upgrade offers. I would anticipate there will be invites after certain thresholds are met, but he did say that he was advised by superiors the only consideration to the upgrade would be a change in the customers tax bracket. Basically they made the World Elite card more prestigious and targeted towards users who will put large purchases on the card. Overall, its not a bad call, the card is still great.

I called on Wednesday to apply for the world elite and was approved and they over-nighted the card to me. It arrived today and yet it does say arrival + in the left corner...the mastercard emblem on the front is just the standard red/yellow as a normal card. I called and spoke with someone who had to check but it seems the new cards being shipped have a glitch and they are going to ship another out to me to reflect the silver emblem. Anyone else experience this? I assumed I was only approved for platinum version and this was just the way it looked, but he said my account showed world elite on his screen.

Thanks for sharing TS. Not sure why then that others with similar stats to yours, some of course lower and some higher are not getting the upgrade. Seems ridiculous especially when new applicants are either approved or denied for world elite period (no sliding scale) and existing applicants are being held to some kind of scale/criteria.

Yeah it seems kind of random. I bet the customer service people aren't all on the same page given that the changes were just introduced. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the things we've heard turn out to be wrong on 05/28. I just hope I still get upgraded ...

Correction. It is chip and signature with PIN as last resort option. Last resort as in,

* Ask for signature first.
* Try to skip CVM if terminal can't accept signature.
* Use PIN if CVM can't be skipped.

It will only use PIN if terminal ask for them. Wells Fargo also have PIN as last resort option in CVM.

@Trumpet
Thanks for adding the extra info, did not know CHIP+SIGNATURE-THEN PIN. So you can't just elect to use the PIN in this case ?

User never have a choice as to pick between PIN or signature. Chip itself has a list of CVM in order of priority. Terminal looks over that list and picks the one it can do.
