I literally did this a little over a week ago--I just received my card today. After researching this question, I decided to send a Secure Message through to Chase. I got a decently quick response letting me know that the switch could be done! I've had the card since 01/13, with a CL of $5500.
Discover it [3/12, $2,500]
Amex BCE [5/13, $25,000, bd 9/12]
Chase Freedom [1/13, $5,500]
SunTrust Cash Rewards [4/14, $7,000]
Bank of America Travel Rewards [9/15, $6,000]

Damn it! wish I had seen this before I cancelled my 4 year old CHASE Freedom last week...

I sent one message asking for conversion and was told it was not possible because signature and platinum are two different products. the reply also said the only way is to apply for a new Freedom and hope for the new approval to be a VISA signature. I sent second message asking about this suggestion from the first rep and was told that application will be immediately declined because I already have a Freedom card. I then decided to cancel the first one before I apply for the second one. feel like an idiot now
