I've had my Citi Diamond Preferred ($1,000 limit)for 7 months and it had slipped my mind about getting a credit limit increase so I went to citi's website and answered the questions needed to grant me an increase and my credit limit was instantly bumped from $1000 to $2100. I was quite happy with that. I'll wait another 6 months and hopefully I get a bigger increase.

That's right: be patient, and build a relationship with one or two banks. I know that some people "collect" different types of credit cards (I guess just to have variety), and some constantly change from one bank's card to another bank's card because the features or benefits are a bit greater than the previous card. But if you build a LONG relationship with a couple of banks (and take good care of your account), they will grant you increases and requests with a simple phone call, that others wouldn't even bother to attempt asking. This is my advice to you. My experience? Forty plus years with Visa (BankAmericard) and Mastercard (Mastercharge), AMEX, Diners Club, etc. accounts, and I don't bother the banks with CLI requests or APR decreases after approaching (or exceeding) the $25,000.00 mark, or dropping below 9% interest. But that's with very long running accounts, successful loans, and 800+ FICO scores.
