Chase Freedom: I've Never Received An Automatic CLI...

Postby Dylan1982 » Wed Apr 30, 2014 2:17 am

I've had my Freedom card since 2/2013 and was issued a $5k CL.

When 8/2013 rolled around (6 months after establishing my acct) I never got an automatic CLI.. I called in (HP) and got a CLI of $3k totalling for a new CL of $8k.

Now I am past the 1 yr mark, and it has been 8 months since I called in for a CLI and I've still yet to receive an automatic CLI... So what gives??

I use my Freedom card for EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE!!! Bill gets paid in full at the end of every month. And as of March, I made a huge payment of $4,xxx to my bill b/c I bought some things.

My utilization on the card as of right now 38%, but I pay my bill (from my last statement balance) before 5/17 in full....

So I've had the card for 14 months with outstanding usauge and outstanding payment history, yet Chase refuses to give me an auto CLI... Again, what gives, why haven't I gottem and auto CLI??????

Well, they don't want to give you one. Is there a reason you feel like you're entitled to one? That card is already your highest single limit.

I don't have any basis for this other than personal experience and a couple of other threads I saw, but to me it seems like their auto clis are more of a counter when you get other, higher limit trade lines and do not use the freedom as much or at all for a bit. I went from 3k to 4k automatically when I opened about 6 more cards (2 with higher limits) and did not use the freedom at all really for 3 months. YMMV, but thats just a data point

Why are you expecting one? CLI's aren't just given in exchange for time. Your credit and income have to meet the creditor's criteria. Have either of those improved?

excellent point. I would agree, however in my case I had neither and saw my increase. I would say that is the general rule for CLIs (as it should be in my opinion), however these companies do use more complex algorithms that just those two data points.

I have had the Chase Freedom since 2007 I think. Never got an automatic CLI. Then I opened up the CSP about a year ago. A month later, they automatically gave me a CLI for the Freedom card by $2,500. Now, I just got an automatic CLI for my CSP for $1,500. These are my only two cards. Can't tell you how they decide to do it or when.

Well, why do you think that they don't want to give an auto CLI! Yes it is my highest single limit, by only $300...

I use the **** out this card, everyday. Every purchase I make goes on my freedom card. I card no balance. Bill is paid in full every month. Not once have I gone over my CL of made a late payment.

Someone who is very responsible like me, the couldn't should be, why wouldn't they want to give me a CLI?

The "general rule of thumb" after 1 yr of account activity you get an auto CLI. That's why I was expecting one. As mentioned in my post above this, my Freedom card gets used for ALL of my purchases. So there are time when my utilization for his particular card can be at 75% until I pay the bill in full.

Of course my credit has changed. Each month I make more and more on time payment, no hard inquiries and my utilization goes down. And there is my finances... Yes my finances have increased but they don't know not. This year alone I got a 15% pay increase...

Funny, I never heard of this general rule of thumb with Chase. Mind you have a Chase Freedom card too and they never given me any auto CLI.

The point is lenders (Chase or not) only gives auto CLI when they feel you deserve it. Each lenders see things differently. Just because you use and pay on time each month does not gurantee CLI.

$8K of CL is a lot, and if you really need more just take a HP for it.
