Thinking of downgrading my CSP

Postby pac4toon » Mon Apr 14, 2014 6:44 pm

So, I was thinking of downgrading my CSP to the no annual fee Sapphire card. I'm over the metal card novelty. Besides, I think a bartender at one of the bars I go to used my card to pry something open because the bottom left corner of my card is bent.

Also, since my BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC is a No FTF card (which is really why I got the CSP in the first place) I really have no use for the CSP. I would rather get the Hawaiian miles points over the UR points (I already cashed in my points btw).

Thoughts?

CSP annual fee is $95
WEMC annual fee is $50 for now (since I had the Hawaiian Airlines VISA)

Oh one more thing, I was also thinking of upgrading my AmExBCE to the Preferred.
In my wallet:
AmEx PRG/ BoH Hawaiian Airlines WEMC / Chase Freedom /

In my sock drawer:
AmEx HHonors & BCE

The post office lady got used to seeing my PRG that when I pay in cash (due to office and me not having change to give back to the office) she even asks for "where is your American Express card- I dont see many of those"

Or the grocery lady that knows me by my Marriott Card (metal as well)..

My CSP and Marriott card seem to start more conversations compared to my PRG!

If you can spend 2500+ on the BCP on groceries, then the BCP is better.
As for the CSP, the points transfer is the biggest perk. You can get signature benefits off other cards if you have one. But you know what makes the most sense for you. I think if you want an airline miles card, maybe the SPG card would be a decent candidate.

Aww cr@p I don't think I spend that much on groceries. lol

Ahh yes, I forgot about the 1:1 points transfer of CSP. Hmm, gonna rethink this thing now. Thanks for the 'reminder'. ;)

Buy gift cards to other stores/services from the grocery store. Anytime I need stuff for the house (Lowe's, Home Depot, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc.) I stop by the grocery store and get gift cards and put them on my BCP. Though not this quarter since I want the 5X points from my Chase Freedom on Lowe's purchases.

I'd be careful with that - Amex is one I've read doesn't like that kind of thing. If you do enough of it and they figure out what's going on they may take action. A bit here and there won't get you in trouble but do enough and it could.

I haven't had any problems yet. But you're probably right, adding a couple $0.99 bag of chips would probably help a lot by making the total not be an even number.

you know the same way that I get screwed on bonus categories is the same way you can take advantage of it

just know how the merchants around you process the transaction..it's not always easy, for example, recently discover had 5% for restaurants and movie purchases

I purchased cupcakes from this cafe but the way they have it coded
is different from the way another cafe that sells scones, are coded

one counted as restaurant, the other didn't, had I known that I would have brought more scones probably because either I'm good with

there is this Starbucks I frequent but it's inside a major chain, so it's categorized as grocery purchase since their merchant processing is ran through the major chain, rather then separate, so I made sure to go to actual Starbucks across the street rather then the Starbucks in the chain store (it's actual Starbucks btw, with their seating and everything)

so guess where I'm going when the bonus category is for grocery ; )

a cup every few days or everyday adds up quick for trans count

esp when the Starbuck runs are for my coworkers and I get cash back frm them

I'm in the same boat, I use my Amex gold for my daily swipes. I got my sing up bonus already on my CSP and haven't had much travel lately. Undecided about down grading, so I feel you.
