Arrival approved! Thoughts?

Postby Jrobnc » Fri Apr 11, 2014 10:36 am

Hi All, I don't post much but I've been a constant visitor for a while.
I applied for the Arrival and was approved for 5k, a little lower than I had hoped so when I call to activate I plan on trying to get an increase WITHOUT a HP.

I see that a few people have had luck with this and a few haven't. I also couldn't resist the arrival because of the 400 but I've been contemplating the Amex everyday though I already have the BCE and with what everyone says about Barclays and how they monitor new accounts I wouldn't want to take any chances.

Also in addition to the cards listed in my signature I have a department store credit card with a 350 limit. I haven't used it in over 3 years but it's my current oldest account. I also have some student loans and a personal loan and at last check in March my score was 772. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on closing the dept store card and the WF card since I never use them.

I don't think at this point either would hurt me and they've been socked forever so it's not a pressing matter just would prefer to my have them sitting around since I have no plans to use them again.
Amex BCE - 6600. Marriott Premier - 12k. Freedom - 2600.
Discover IT - 5500. WF College Card - 1200.

I would just close them. They will still show on your report for the next 10 years and by that time your actual cards will be much older.

If you have not used the store card in 3 years it will probably be closed soon anyway. You may as well close it. There is a good chance that it will continue to report on your bureau for up to ten years anyway (although some banks remove them sooner). It sounds like you are in your early 20s so you have plenty of time to build your credit.

Dump Hells Fargo...they are a joke.
