BofA Product Change News?

Postby swipe_masta » Sat Apr 05, 2014 9:08 pm

I put a ? at the end cause I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but I recently converted my no rewards Platinum (my first and oldest card) to the Better Balance rewards card. Well, I was told that my card # will change cause it's a product change from Visa to MC (no problem). Then when I get my new card, the # did indeed change, but it is still a Visa! I thought that Better Balance only came in MC. I call up cs and was told that even though it was a product change, you still keep your original version of the card meaning if it was a Visa, it will always be a Visa regardless of what if any, product you change it to. Did anybody else know this? How accurate/inaccurate is this? Only looking for BofA experiences. Also, what is the point of or is there even a point in changing the card number?

When BoA changed my cash rewards visa from a non signature to a signature visa (due to CL going over 5k) they changed my account number. Seems like BoA likes to change account numbers. Wouldn't surprise me if when the card expires and they reissue a new one they change the number. Ha.

I switched my Accelerated Cash Rewards American Express to the Better Balance Rewards MasterCard in November/December 2013. The terms and conditions that I received refer to both Visa and MasterCard versions. They market the MasterCard but you can request a Visa; or as with your situation, your existing Visa will continue (with a new account number).

I just got my first quarterly reward of $30 (I have BofA checking so I got the extra $5) on 4/4. It is awesome!

BofA is very BIN (Bank Identification Number-the first 6 digits of your card) specific. Most non Signature Visa's have a BIN of 4024; whereas most of their Visa Signature's are 4313 (4147 for Alaska Airlines-I believe). Interestingly enough, even if you change from a Visa Signature to another Visa Signature, they change the account number.....My Visa Signature has had 6 different account numbers since being opened in 5/2001; two of which were due to a compromise including the recent Target compromise......

Thanks CC. I just thought it was one of those "it only comes in MC/Visa" situations... Yeah I noticed that they are very specific about the numbers too.
