Question re: upgrading UA Mileageplus Awards card to Explorer

Postby 2miao » Sun Mar 30, 2014 6:38 pm

Hello all,

I have a question about upgrading UA Mileageplus Awards card to UA Mileageplus Explorer.
Currently, I have an UA mileageplus awards card, and it is my oldest card. I am considering to upgrade to Mileageplus Explorer.

I contacted the chase representative, the young lady told me she would upgrade my card via phone. My question is, does this kind of upgrade effect my credit history and credit score (because the UA card is my oldest card)?

Thanks in advance~!

A product change will not affect your credit history. It's the same tradeline; it's simply that the features Chase provides you with that are different.

Why are you considering the upgrade? The Explorer doesn't have any real benefits over the MileagePlus Awards card. If you're not paying a fee right now, the $95 fee on the Explorer doesn't get you much.

that's not true

awards has 60 dollar annual fee (generally, I've seen 80 sticker priced for a few)

it gives you about 1 mile for every dollar spent on united; half for everything else

it has foreign transaction fees

it doesn't give you annual 10k miles if u spend 25k within a calendar year

the only question is,

why would you upgrade when you can open one and take advantage of the bonus?

if you value your current CL, APR and year of opening over 50k bonus miles then yes

upgrading > opening one

and even if you don't travel outside of US much, the earning miles is better on explorer
then awards

I said "if" about the fee, but I stand corrected on the other benefits.

I said the fee because a lot of awards owner doesn't even know the fee themselves they've had it that long

sorry that rubbed at you

I also said that it can be another fee because apparently the three priced sapphire isn't the first; so there are awards card that may not have 60 fee but something else
