Mastercard Suggestions?

Postby ceemee » Mon Mar 17, 2014 9:18 pm

I'm looking to apply for a new mastercard (so far I only have Visa and AMEX). I haven't pulled my ficos but my FAKOS are 762 at CK and 767 at CS. AAOA - 6 yrs 2 months. Oldest account is more than 9yrs. I make around $50k before bonus.

I currently have:

BCE ($15.2k) 5/08
Freedom ($5k) 1/14
Merril+ ($7.5k) 7/11
PRG 5/08

I'd rather points than cash back. Preferably a world mastercard. I'd also prefer to not pay an annual fee. This card will be used when I hopefully travel near the end of this year.

I have 3 HPs on EX (2 fall off in May) and TU (at least 1 falls off in May) and 1 on EQ (which falls on in May).

Best rewards programs are membership rewards and ultimate rewards. They are amex and chase respectively. However, chase will only sponsor visa going forward. You choices are limited to cobranded cards. Only other option is the Barclaycard arrival, but the good one is a fee card and you need good credit to qualify for world mc for that one. Good luck!

If you are able, USAA has a great World MC with rewards. APR is average but there is no AF.
American Express (2005): Premier Rewards Gold & Blue Cash Preferred
Chase: Freedom & UA Club USAA: Signature Visa & American Express
Discover it Bank of Hawaii Hawaiian Airlines WEMC Synchrony Sam's MC
Navy FCU Platinum Visa Citi Double Cash & AT&T Access MC

No chance with USAA.

APR doesn't really matter, I always pay in full. I think have good credit. Only bad thing on my report is 1 30 day late from back in 2008.

Pretty vague criteria and there are countless cards that would fit. You really need to provide more specifics for recommendations. Why do you prefer points? Why do you prefer no AF? You really should consider total cost/benefit. What would your major spend categories be?

I was able to get the $400 credit after $1000 spend for the Barclay Arrival card so I've applied for it. I'll use it and evaluate if I want to continue with the annual fee after 12 months or downgrade.

Thanks.
