Got my first "prequalified" offer from Citi

Postby MemberSince99 » Thu Mar 13, 2014 6:55 am

They never noticed me before. Last night I got a prequalified offer (means little to nothing I know) for the Diamond Preferred with a 19.99% rate after the 0% APR for one year. I looked up the APR range to get an idea of what they thought of me and found the APR range to be 11.99 to 21.99% and that by cold applying on their website you could get 18 months at 0%.

Not too impressive an effort there, Citi. Even if I had a balance to transfer which I don't (I'm not that stupid that I carry a balance) I wouldn't bite on this one. But I do appreciate you at least noticing.

Eh, win some, lose some. CapOne thinks that I'd be interested in a low-limit, no-rewards card with a 22.9% rate and a 6-month 0% term.

Meanwhile, I just got massive CLIs from most of my issuers and Discover tells me that my TU08 is now at 767.

After my experience with Citi offshore C/S this week, I'll use them for their bonuses and nothing else. I'm curious what C/S is like for the Executive AAdvantage card. If it's on par with Chase or Amex Platinum, it may be worth something.

I've a lot of friends who don't like Citi because of poor customer service, but I've yet to hear any of them make the same complaints for business accounts. My own experience with Citi C/S has been very pleasant when I asked to match a recent promotion on the Hilton Reserve. Not only did they match the offer, but they followed up with me making sure I was happy with my experience. Maybe I got lucky, but it seems other Reserve cardholders have had similar good experiences

I've always had great service from Citibank. Too bad their rewards are completely sub par....

I don't blame you at all. My experience with the offshore team is they are pretty much worthless But that's the same whether the bank is Citi, Amex, or Cap One. And I don't imagine you and I not liking it is going to change it - they are under pressure to dance to Wall St's tune every quarter so we can expect that our personal and financial information is going to continue to be available to people in foreign countries not exactly friendly to us. And with our lovely system if anything happens we'll be to blame for it. Gotta love it.

On the other hand, I've never had a truly bad experience with an American rep. The last two times I called Citi I got Americans and my problem was resolved immediately. Try that with the offshore team sometime. They may be cheap, but you really do get what you pay for.

I have that card and they never fail to tell me how I'm a valuable "elite" customer--then it's all down hill from there

Unfortunately it's hit and miss, I have called CS four times since I got the card in January and twice I was not pleased, once I was neutral and once satisfied. I don't think the reps have much leeway to handle issues. They must have strict corporate policies or something.

All I can say is at best they are a distant 4th behind Chase, Discover and Amex Plat.
