Chase product change

Postby linuxmachine » Tue Mar 04, 2014 9:58 pm

I have an old mastercard account (turning into visa) that I don't use. I'd like to see if I can product change to another card. I have CSP/Freedom. Perhaps one of the free cards like the Amazon card? I've read mixed outcomes where some were able to product change and others were not. Anyone have suggestions on how to go about? Is calling them best?

Just give them a call and if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. You can also google chase executive office (if calling doesn't work) to see if the EO can help out.

Typically you can only PC within the same card family though. So Slate, Freedom, and Sapphire for example - or Ritz-Carlton and Marriott for example.
Everyday Preferred $45K | Amex Platinum NPSL | Delta Platinum $30K | Chase Sapphire Reserve $74.5K | Discover IT $42K

Have they told you that your MasterCard was turning into a Visa? My Slate MasterCard expired (or will expire 3/14) and they sent me a new MasterCard. They also lowered my APR this month which I found interesting....

I inquired about a PC from Slate to Freedom via the online "We are listening" button on online account management. They were fully willing to do proceed with the upgrade but stated that it would turn into a Visa.

As Mr. Mosby said, generally speaking you can only PC a "normal" card (ie Slate, Freedom, CS/CSP) into another "normal" card. I have not heard of many people being able to change a Slate into an Amazon or Disney etc. Wouldn't hurt to call or ask online to see what your options are.

Tried twice to no avail. Once was over the phone, and I subsequently tried over email as well. They both explicitly mentioned 'cannot change at this time' as if it this is a temporary thing, but I'm sure they say that all the time. I'm not sure if there are any products in the same family as this card. It was just a plain old credit card from way back. If it really is under the freedom/slate/sapphire grouping, then I guess I'll just stow it since I have those cards (not interested in the slate..hehe)

Well at least you tried. Yeah, they used "at this time" with me as well when I inquired about why the "upgrade" to Freedom would be platinum and not Signature.

Yeah, you aren't missing anything with Slate although they do offer pretty decent 0%balance transfers with a 2% fee over the normal 3-5%.

Yeah, I'm not sure how broadly they define "families." The rep told me I could consolidate my UMP with my CSP at will. They're both points cards, I guess? But it seems like United would be loathe to lose customers to a more general points product...
CSP $19K
BOA $4K
UMP $11.5K
Target Visa $1.5K

My guess is they figure the UMP and CSP as members of the "travel card" family?
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

What are the chances I am able to product change from Freedom to Sapphire Preferred? I've had Freedom for 1.5yrs, and pay it in full every month. Last credit score was 728 Experian.

Why not just apply for it? 40k points is a decent bonus. Stow your freedom if you rather not use it afterwards but the cash back categories are pretty good all year
