Worth Having Both Visa & MC?

Postby MrMosby » Mon Feb 10, 2014 3:06 pm

Any reason to have both a Visa & MasterCard? If I convert my Citi to a Visa I can get Hilton points which I may actually use compared to the thank you points since I do stay Hilton time to time, but then I get rid of my only MC

I say why the hell not have both. From what I understand some places in Europe prefer MasterCard and here in the States I think Sam's Club takes MasterCard and Discover.

MasterCard and Visa are pretty much interchangeable in terms of acceptance. A Visa Signature has more perks than a World MasterCard.

Wouldn't it be better though to sign up for a brand new Citibank Hilton HHoners card? For the sign up bonus I mean. Citibank allows up to three cards.

Yea, I have enough :-) I'm waiting for a good Amex PRG or Platinum bonus offer to surface, then I'm done.

Benefits can vary slightly between them as well. International rental car insurance coverage is one example I can think of. Each excludes different countries.

Worth is really for you to determine as it's a highly subjective matter on any topic. It's certainly possible for there to be no benefit for a given person while another could benefit. Personally, I never like having all my eggs in one basket whether the basket is defined by creditor, payment network, etc.
