Pre-approved for Citi Diamond Preferred

Postby tvirk888 » Thu Feb 06, 2014 8:15 pm

Got a letter in the mail saying I am pre-approved for Citi Diamond Preferred. Have had my Chase card since October, and a car loan for over a year and half. Does this mean banks are taking more notice of my record? I am not going to apply for it though, trying to get into a new car within a few weeks, and don't want my credit to drop. I did originally want to apply for this card along with the Chase Freedom, but I wanted to wait till I get another car.

Feels good though. First pre-approved letter I have received.
Amex BCE - $20K (11/2014)
Amex Everyday - $20K (04/2015)
Amex Business Gold - NPSL (09/2013)
Bank Of America Cash Rewards - $5K (11/2014)
Chase Freedom - $11,700 (10/2013)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $18K (11/2014)
Citi Thank You Preferred - $10K (11/2014)
U.S. Bank Cash+ - $5K (03/2015)
Wells Fargo Platinum Rewards - $4700 (05/2009)

Congratulations I'm sure it's the first of many.

It means Citi did.

I have this card and I do not like it. Their rewards program does not worth my spending. They give you points and you use point to buy deal, which discount 1 or 2 dollars. They have a long free-interest period of time about 18 months though. But I don't think I want to keep it.Citi Dividend is better.

Hold on to that pre-approval until after you get your car loan! You might want it at a later time; you're likely to get others from CITI.

The Diamond Preferred is a flashy looking card, but little flash to back it up. It's definitely not in the running as a rewards card, but that doesn't mean there aren't good benefits from the card. There are various travel benefits (concierge service, trip interruption/cancellation benefits, rental card benefits, that sort of thing), and the card comes with Chip and Signature EMV chip. There is, however, a 3% FTF. Pity, that. If it had no FTF, plus having the no AF, that would improve the attractiveness of this card beyond the superficial. And of course, there's the BT benefits that come with the card, what really makes this card what it is.

If the BT bennies appeal to you for somewhere down your credit journey road, then it's a good card to have.
