Seeking advice on Arrival apps?

Postby iHackerSix » Thu Dec 26, 2013 8:29 pm

Ok so after researching here about the BarclayCard Arrival without annual fee I came to the conclusion it was a pretty good card for dining and travel. So I suggested to my sister that she should apply for it. She did and was approved for a Platinum version, not World version MasterCard. Now I'm thinking, down the road, say 12 months from now with her Arrival still active, can she apply again for the Arrival MasterCard WITH annual fee version? She thought the annual fee version was a better option but also thought it might be harder to get approved for so she went for the no annual fee version to try and get approved. Was this a mistake? I welcome everyone's input.

A World Mastercard is pretty much the same as a Visa Signature card.

Does she have either of those cards in her lineup? If not, that's why she was downgraded to a Platinum.

World Mastercard and Visa Signature cards start at 5000 CLs and up.
Merrick Bank (Hooters) 4100
Cap One Quicksilver 2800
Discover it 2500
Citi Forward 5400
Chase Freedom 1000
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday 5500
Citi Dividend 5600
Cap One Visa Platinum 750 (CLOSED)

She can. I'm not sure how Barclay is about PC or that would be a better plan if they allow it. Not sure they do. But she can apply for the other one.

Thanks for the replies guys. Her roster is as follows: CSP Signature Visa w/10,000 limit, AAdvantage World MasterCard w/3,500 limit, and Amex Delta Gold w/3,000 limit. Income at 52,000 and no baddies/debt except 100.00 on her Chase card. Scores around 720.

If that's her profile then, yes, I would say it was a mistake to not apply for the WMC. You can't live your life worried about what might happen. Apply for the cards you want and see what comes your way.

She can apply for the WMC version whenever she wants since it is not the same card. However, with a recent new line of credit, Barclays may balk at approving for another card.
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

Yeah that's kinda weird, she DID apply for the WMC version but the version with NO annual fee instead. Well she was approved for the Arrival with NO annual fee but not the WORLD version, just the Platinum version. Hopefully next year she can get approved for the ANNUAL FEE version but this time get a WMC instead of a Platinum MasterCard. Fingers crossed for her, she's a very responsible person and I would like her to have whatever she wants/needs =)

OK, sorry, in my head I was thinking WMC = Arrival w/AF w/o remembering there's a NAF version. Has the card arrived? Are you positive it's not a WMC? If so, then call up Barclay and ask why it's advertised as a WMC but she didn't get that designation. BTW from an app standpoint it was silly not to apply for the AF version as that's the only real difference so I am 99.99% sure she would have been accepted. Even the spend minimum is the same...maybe she can PC? Or not activate the card and just app for the AF version? Or have both and combine the miles? Depends on how much she wants to accumulate :)

Yeah it's silly but she thought the NAF version would be "easier" to qualify for, if that makes any sense I dunno but she recieved the card a few days ago and sure enough it says "Platinum" just above the MasterCard logo! World version denied  Oh well, maybe next app?

Hmm...worth her placing a call to Barclay IMO. It is advertised as a WMC!

It isn't uncommon for credit card companies to advertise a World/Signature but give you a lower tier version upon application, I see that happen all the time.

That being said, however, I'm surprised that your sister received such a low limit with her qualifications. I only have two years of credit history and listed $20,000 income and was instantly approved for the WMC version of the annual fee Arrival yesterday. Maybe she should try calling customer service for reconsideration? They may be able to give her at least a CLI, though that may cost another hard pull. (I've has BofA do a total of TWO hard pulls for one CLI before).
Gold Delta Skymiles -AU- $25k- 4/12
Citi Forward Visa- $6.1k- 8/12
Amex Gold Delta Skymiles- $3.8k- 1/13
BofA Travel Rewards Visa Sig- $5k- 1/13
Amex Blue Cash Everyday- $5k- 7/13
Barclaycard Arrival WEMC- $5k-1/14
Cap One Quicksilver Visa Sig- $10k- 4/15
