College Threatens To Hold My Transcripts b/c of Billing Dispute

Postby Issy » Sat Dec 21, 2013 6:38 pm

I just won a dispute against a community college for the fees back on a course I signed up for, because it wasn't meeting for nearly the advertised time and they refused to do anything about it. I got all but about $100, for time attended, back in the dispute.

They immediately sent me a letter demanding the amount I received refunded in payment- threatening a hold on my account (holding my transcripts,) 12% interest, collections, and garnishing any state tax return.

Is this even legal !!!??!?! After winning a dispute- how can they harass me for payment like this?

Welcome to the forum. Not quite sure why this in the Visa & Mastercard forum. However,
you may want to communicate with the college more about this situation and see if it can be resolved.
Travel Perks: AMEX Platinum, SPG Amex ($16300), Chase Sapphire Preferred ($11600)
5% Rotating Cashback: Discover IT ($5800) , Chase Freedom Signature Visa ($10000)
Low APR Card (7.99%): CFCU ($5000)
Co-Branded Card: Barclays Apple Visa ($3800)

Future: BCP, Close Apple Visa and open Arrival

Are you posting here because you paid the tuition with a Visa or MC? If so, it seems like the college might be in violation of their merchant agreement with your cc company, if the dispute is resolved. You may want to contact your cc and speak with customer service.

Yup, IT IT LEGAL until the issued is resolved in THEIR records. So, even if you have won, until their records/statements are brought up to date or are processed they can do it. That is a real pain. Sorry.
