Approved For the Freedom

Postby darkguy2 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 10:25 pm

I got a pre-approval letter in the mail and the Freedom was the one card I have been wanting but did not think I could get. Went online and got approved instantly for $2,700 at 18.99%. Also tried for Sallie Mae MasterCard but I not approved instantly and went on the tracking site right after and it said that I was not approved. Kind of a bummer since that card would fit my needs for a everyday use card. I have no idea why they would deny a student for a card marketed for students. Put in for a CLI on my IT and hope to get a boost. Is there a backdoor number for Barclaycard? I don't want to wait for them to mail me the reason they rejected me.
Discover IT - $5,700

Amex BCE - $13,000

FICOs: Discover (777), SallieMae (764), Amex (767), Citi (772)

They usually give several reasons for the rejection rather than one specific reason. I heard a lot of people on here talked about reconsideration. You might want to give them a call to their customer services. Good luck!
All my posts are my opinions. All my posts mentioned "you" are merely for discussion-purpose only. No advice is given in any post at any time. It is also impossible for me to put effort to verify every statement that anyone has given.

Called them this morning. After asking me several questions they still denied me. I heard the same reason that I have seen elsewhere, that they like established credit and not new credit like mine. They also did not like a line of credit that I have $11,000 on. It is through a credit union that can only be used for student loans. I do not know why they do not like that but are ok with regular loans. Said that even though it is deferred I would have to start paying it off after I graduate. I should of asked why they would have a card geared towards students if they do not like new credit. I do not know many students who have a long credit history.

Congratulations. You can't win them all but getting the Freedom is a nice win.
