Visa Black TV ad

Postby Obi-dan » Wed Nov 20, 2013 10:37 pm

I saw a TV commercial for the Visa Black card Sunday. Does that strike anyone else as odd? It seems if what you're selling is exclusivity than you don't want to mass advertise.
Cards:
Chase Sapphire Preferred
Marriott Rewards
Citi Hilton
Barclay Arrival
AMEX BCE (member since 95)
Chase Freedom
Discover It
Wells Fargo Platinum
Barclaycard (Apple)
Local Credit Union Visa (buy local!)

TU: 824 (Aug 2014)
Experian: 789 (Aug 2014)
Equifax: 807 (Aug 2014)

Not worth it. It's been around for a while now. The AF is too much for a Visa.
Amex BCE - $20K (11/2014)
Amex Everyday - $20K (04/2015)
Amex Business Gold - NPSL (09/2013)
Bank Of America Cash Rewards - $5K (11/2014)
Chase Freedom - $11,700 (10/2013)
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $18K (11/2014)
Citi Thank You Preferred - $10K (11/2014)
U.S. Bank Cash+ - $5K (03/2015)
Wells Fargo Platinum Rewards - $4700 (05/2009)

Oh it's exclusive alright - their market is people who are willing to pay 495 a year to try to look important by carrying a black color card like it's some kind of badge for a high roller. And there are bound to be people who are that hard up to try to impress others.

IMO their target demographic seems apparent from the card's terms and benefits and those that they're advertising to aren't going to realize what you're saying. Plenty of mass produced products market on the image of exclusivity.

I might consider this card solely for lounge access, if I could access ALL lounges. This is all I have found on the website:
UNLIMITED VIP AIRPORT LOUNGE VISITS
Cardmembers receive complimentary membership and unlimited visits to over 350 lounges in 200 cities worldwide with our VIP airport lounge program.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of participating lounges?

If I had to guess, it's probably the Priority Pass system (which you also gain access to as an Amex Platinum member). That number is about the number in their system and what lounge it is varies from place to place (and many aren't in the US).
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

They have also been advertising heavily on CNN. HA! If I were a store clerk or waiter I'd have to really watch myself as not to laugh at the guy handing a Visa Black Card to me for payment. I don't even see "Signature" on the card art...so is it a Platinum level card then? LOL

They want it to be seen as a Centurion equivalent. It's in no way even close. It's designed for the old adage about fools and what happens to their money.

You know that reminds me, I have not gotten a mail offer in at LEAST 6 months if not longer. Not that I really care but it just kind of dawned on me. Do you guys get lots of offers in the mail?
