Citi Credit Limit Increase Policy

Postby Techno4K » Sun Nov 10, 2013 1:46 pm

I have a Citi Dividend World Mastercard since 2005, and the credit limit has been at 6K since I opened it. I read that for AMEX, a 3X credit limit increase is recommended, but does anyone have any experience and/or strategy with Citi and how much to request. I want to keep my util % low. Thanks

I opened one a little over a year ago and they gave me an auto CLI after about 6 months from 4500 to 5900. At one point I was going to request a CLI, but they told me it would be a hard pull so I told them nevermind and it was about 2 weeks later that they gave me the auto CLI....

I don't think their CLI policy is the same regarding the 3X rule and I've never heard of a soft pull CLI with them, but I guess you never know if you don't ask (and maybe they will do a soft pull and give you something if you turn down the hard pull too). I have no idea if the auto had anything to do with my request, but in my case I did end up getting something.

Based on what I can tell, they like to compete with your highest line. So if you have a card that is much higher, they may give you an increase to try and match it. I think if you have had it since 2005 and you have higher cards, you have a good chance at getting a CLI if you call and ask about it, but that assumes you have a good history with them.

Good luck!

The safest way, though usually not the most rewarding, is requesting the CLI online. You can generally get a soft-pull CLI every 6 months online. Increases are generally skimpy this way -- around $1500 -- but it's a relatively safe soft pull.
