New 2013 Citi Thank You Preferred categories: what counts?

Postby hockeyplayr » Thu Sep 26, 2013 10:41 am

I recently received a couple letters in the mail for a Citi TY pref, the platinum select aadvantage WMC, and a simplicity. Thinking about apping for the TY pref because of the 2x points on dining and entertainment. I read the fine print and they say entertainment can include record shops. Does that apply to a place such as best buy? Around me there aren't very many record shops left in business.

Secondly would it be smart to apply right now. I recently obtained an amex BCE, Discover IT, and Chase Freedom all in June but since then have had my limits on the BCE upped from 2k to 5.4k and a $500 auto increase from discover. My other cards are from January and February. I also just let my most recent discover statement cut with $750 (all paid now, forgot to pay it down before the statement ended). So I am not too sure if that will throw a red flag even though I technically haven't carried a balance. I've always wanted to get in with CITI. Just not sure this very moment is the right time.

Thanks

I asked Citi. They said that Best Buy is considered an electronics store, which doesn't fall under the entertainment category.

Unless you are participating in a limited-time offer, you will earn: 2 ThankYou Points for every dollar you spend on purchases at restaurants and on select entertainment merchants including sports promoters, theatrical promoters, movie theaters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, record stores and video rental stores; 1 ThankYou Point for every dollar you spend on all other purchases.

And because it won't let me just reply with a quote, here's a few extra words to pad out this post.
