CO Product Change - Successful

Postby jumbo » Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:08 am

Just letting people know, if they want to PC CapitalOne.
I have a CapitalOne Platinum MC from 2010 with 1.7K limit.
I wanted to change it to some reward card, so finally called the number that is on the back of the card. And surprisingly the person who answered was able to change my card to Quicksilver card that has 1.5% cash back, no AF and no foreign transaction fee.
Pretty decent that the Platinum MC that I have.
So now the card is on its way, and the credit limit increase form on CapitalOne website is a Soft Inquiry (I talked with the representative, and thats what he said), so I submitted that too. The will let me know if there is any increase via mail.

They said the same thing for one of my relatives cards. She never received the letter and we later found out the reason why was because she had signed up for paperless documents. So make sure to check the account documents contained in your Capital One online account if you signed up for paperless. Plus, you might get to find out sooner :D .

I am actually signed up for paperless. Never thought about that. I'll check the online document section. Lets see what happens.
Thanks.

After reading this thread, thought I'd give it a 2nd go on upgrading my sock-drawered Platinum Mastercard to the Quicksilver Card via chat- here was my result:

Image

Apparently you can convert now! As per the chat representative, I'm getting upgraded to the no-AF, Quicksilver 1.5% cash back card, with the same account number I've always had. I assume it's not Visa Signature because the limit was 1.25k before- however, I'm kinda stumped because the Mastercard version is the one with the AF. But we'll see what happens. APR should be lowered as well (even though I have never carried a balance, nor intend to).

I tried to convert this into a Quicksilver about 5 months back via chat as well, and was told I could NOT do this, but again you apparently can at this point. Anyone else going for it? Never hurts to ask!

Although it's still probably going to be sock-drawered for me, Cap1 seems to be more and more generous in their products this year over previous years that I've seen.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

Wow, congrats to both of you.
I have the $39/year Platinum. Which one was yours, jumbo and ivotedale?
I received a letter telling me they're automatically upgrading it to the QuicksilverOne, which is the annual fee version. I know that Ridgeracer mentioned having a no-annual fee Platinum, which got converted to a Quicksilver. I'd be curious to hear if anyone was successful in upgrading their $19 or $39/year AF card to a no-fee Quicksilver.

Midori - my Platinum was the Non-AF one.

ivotedate - I'm kinda stumped because the Mastercard version is the one with the AF.

I am thinking the same thing. MC version is the one with AF, and the person told me that the one I will be getting is a Non-AF.
So lets see what card they send after 7/9 days.

@midori + @jumbo: my card is actually the Cap1 Newcomers card, although it is still a Platinum Mastercard product- not sure if it's too much different than the normal non-AF/AF Platinum Mastercards.

I'll have to see though, it almost sounds too good to be true- no AF, lower APR, and if you read the fine print for the Quicksilver (non-One card), the minimum CL is $3,000. It's either gotta be the Visa or Visa Signature- otherwise as we all know the AF version is Mastercard. Maybe I'll strike gold and get a Signature :p

But again I was informed I would receive an e-mail once they send it in the mail, so I gotta play the waiting game (I'm also waiting on my newly outfitted Amex's to come in the mail with EMV chips!).

I am waiting for the Quicksilver card as well.
Regarding CLI, I am not sure if thats gonna happen.
When converting my Platinum select to Quicksilver, I asked for a CLI as well (since it was a soft inquiry, why not).
Today I got a message saying that the CLI was not approved and the reason is:

A credit limit increase on your account is currently not available upon request in order to review
account activity at assigned credit limits

So, looks like I will get a Quicksilver card with the current 1.75K limit.

This is encouraging. I still have a $39 AF Platinum, it was my first credit card a few years ago. It has the typical $500 credit limit. I've been on the fence about whether to eventually close it, or keep it for age of accounts.
They've recently sent some offers for the Quicksilver, so maybe they'll go for the upgrade and get rid of the AF. I guess the choice comes down to keeping the age of account, vs being eligible for the $100 bonus on a new application. And since there's other cards I'd rather burn inquiries on, I'm leaning towards upgrade.

I don't need a $3k limit, and they might not want to give me that much, so I'm kind of glad to hear that isn't required to get approved.

Just a quick update on my CO situation:
After the successful product change, I asked for CLI, but was denied after 3 days of submitting the request.
So I emailed the CEO of CapitalOne, Richard Fairbank, saying that I haven't had CLI in almost 2 years, and I plan to visit Europe this December and since quickSilver has no foreign transaction fee, I will be using this card and I need a credit limit increase. I asked for an increase from 1.5 K to 4K.
I got a call from the corporate office, and CL was bumped to 2.5K, not what I asked for, but I accepted it (nothing is better than something)
