Will switching my Freedom MC to Visa affect anything?

Postby Drudai » Wed Aug 28, 2013 9:55 am

Hello all,

with my new Discover card in tow, I realised that I don't have a Visa card anymore since I switched from my BoA bank (their local branch closed and the nearest is 2+ hours away!). Banking now with 5/3rd gives me MC debit and credit, and my secured CapOne is MC as well.

I applied for the Chase MC as I thought it would be easier to get, but now I wish I had a Visa (as my local casino has a rewards system with Visa and we plan on spending a lovely weekend get away there before Christmas).

I'm not sure how to go about switching, unless I have to completely apply for it separately, but on top of that, does it "close" my MC card (effecting AAoA/credit score) or just changes subtly within Chase's system?

Any help would be appreciated.
Chase Freedom: $800
Chase Slate: $500
Discover It: $2000
Sears: $2000
US Bank: $500
AMEX BCE: $2000

Changes are all within Chase and will not have detrimental effect on your AAoA. Send a secure message through the Chase website or call the number on the back of your card to request the swap.

It shouldn't be a problem. I changed my CSP from Visa to MasterCard not too long ago and it was just a simple phone call.

They'll change your account number to a MC number, but the tradeline/history will remain the same.
