Bank of America has been good to me!

Postby dlgoldamex » Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:09 pm

I applied for my Travel Rewards card in February, and was approved with a limit of $700. This limit wasn't great, so I just assumed that I was going to have a bad relationship with BofA. Shortly before I left for Europe, I requested a CLI and was approved for $1300. Better, but still not so hot. So a few days ago, I requested a CLI to $5,000. Two days later a nice lady from BofA called me, asked a few questions, and approved the request on the spot! I then used their online chat service to request an upgrade to Visa Signature, and that was handled immediately, and my new card arrived two weeks later! I think it's needless to say that I'm very happy! The only negative is that they performed hard pulls for each CLI, but I feel as if they were worth it, as this is my most heavily used card.
Gold Delta Skymiles -AU- $25k- 4/12
Citi Forward Visa- $6.1k- 8/12
Amex Gold Delta Skymiles- $3.8k- 1/13
BofA Travel Rewards Visa Sig- $5k- 1/13
Amex Blue Cash Everyday- $5k- 7/13
Barclaycard Arrival WEMC- $5k-1/14
Cap One Quicksilver Visa Sig- $10k- 4/15

Congratulations. They are known for being generous if you are a good customer, as well as known for most CLIs being hard pulls. But they do have a reputation for generousity with credit lines once you've established a history.

The only downside of this is, that 5k limit will no longer report for you as part of your utilization with the credit bureaus. In your case, I don't think it matters since you have a couple of other 5k limit cards and are an AU on a 25k limit card, but bear in mind that now the card won't give a limit.

I still say you did great and just use that to manage your credit wisely.

This is what I picture when I think of BofA

They are willing to give you a chance to build up your credit but will not grow with you. They refused to give me a credit line increase or approve me for a second credit card (first had $2,000 limit). As you can see in my signature.......Chase, Citi, Amex, Discover, Barclays, NFCU all felt I was good enough for new credit lines.

Congrats on the approval OP, but don't expect much from that group. Your CLI may be due to your income. However, a simple CLI alone shouldn't be room for expecting much more from them.
My Limits:
NFCU NavCheck: $15,000/NFCU Platinum: $11,500/NFCU nRewards: $8,000
Chase Freedom: $6,500/Chase Slate: $6,000/CSP: $5,000/Marriott Rewards Primier: $5,000/United MileagePlus Explorer: $5,000/Southwest Primier: $3,000
Citi Hilton HHonors: $9,700/Citi Simplicity: $8,200/Citi Forward: $5,500
AMEX Blue Cash Everyday: $8,000/SPG AMEX: $5,000/AMEX Everyday: $5,000/AMEX Delta Skymiles Platinum: $3,400
Discover IT: $7,700
Barclay's NFL Extra Points (Carolina Panthers): $5,000
DCU Platinum: $3,000
RTN FCU CC: $2,000
CCCU Platinum Rewards Visa: $2,000

Current total limit: $129,500
