Chase and CLIs

Postby im_mr_awesome » Sat Jun 29, 2013 2:38 pm

I have the Amazon Rewards card from Chase and they gave me a pretty low starting limit: $500. I run more than that through this card per month and have spent and paid more than my credit limit in just the past 30 days. The $500 limit just doesn't match my spending. I'm switching to my Discover card for the summer for the 5% rotating on gas, but for restaurants the Amazon card is still my best bet for rewards.

Has anyone received a CLI from Chase without asking for one and having them hard pull? How about in the first year?

I was given an automatic 500 increase after 6 months. Not much but it was a soft pull and It was done without me asking. My limit is now $4,500.00 on my chase freedom.

No auto CLI for me. I have requested a CLI once and was approved without any trouble.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

I have the Chase Marriott card with a $8.5k limit, I've had it for about three months now. Is there a typical time I have to wait to request a higher limit or should I just wait until they do one automatically? I don't really need it to be higher at this time as it gets rare use but it'd be nice to have a larger limit.

6 months since approval/last request. Auto CLI are rare, if you get one then you are lucky, if you don't then don't be surprised.

If you really don't need it, I'd wait, because it will probably (not guaranteed but probably) be a hard pull.

Yeah CSR said it would be a hard pull, even though I explained the limit they gave me on an otherwise decent rewards card is almost useless. I'll just wait and apply for a CLI right when I apply for an AMEX in the beginning of the year. Too bad I'll have to wait; I like that card. Maybe once my scores improve I could get upgraded to the visa signature one. Hmmm. Unlikely, but a boy can dream!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I plan on applying the the Chase SP soon also so I guess my Chase Marriott card won't be getting a credit limit increase anytime soon.

Let's hope so, I applied last night and wasn't instant approval but they'll get back to me. I plan on calling them about it later today. If approved, which I am pretty sure, then I will change it to the World MasterCard version as I already have a Visa Signature card.
