Cap One new CLI button

Postby lexrj » Sat Jun 29, 2013 12:11 pm

As we all know CapOne is very annoying on giving CLIs. It looks like they are slowly progressing, there is now an online CLI button (under the menu Services, then More).
My Cap One card (currently on my sock drawer) was my first CC and it had a pathetic impossible to increase $750 limit so I decided to give it a try since it's a soft pull.
Got $500 more, so now this sock drawer is at $1250. Still useless but I just wanted to test the CLI feature.
Don't forget, its a SOFT PULL so there is nothing loose.

Isn't it ironic that as Cap One gets better Discover seems to go the other direction?

Maybe they've finally decided that they want to keep people whose credit has improved, instead of seeing them move on to the likes of Amex, Chase, Discover, and Citi.

Interesting.

Now if they only could get some CSRs who knew the difference between their heads and a hole in the ground, they'd possibly be a prime lender.

Agreed with Member. Interesting. I also saw this button, and I'm going to try for a CLI since my Cap1 cards are both under $1000. Pretty useless for everyday use. I'll post my results, good or bad.

EDIT: Maybe we can find out just how conservative a lender they are.

Well I got a 7-10 days notice, which I was totally prepared for. They are a conservative lender for sure, and while they may be at least accepting customer initiated CLIs, they aren't getting much more liberal with their lending strategy. I'm stuck at $1250 between two cards with them. I'll try again in a few months after my scores improve. I'm also going to see if they are allow PC'ing now. If so, I might try to switch my newcomer rewards card to the new Quicksilver card.

That button has always been there, it just hasn't worked this whole time lol. Every time I clicked on it, a pop-up would say to call for an increase. CapitalOne has never wronged me so I actually like them. I'm thinking about apping for their new cash back card since I was notified that I was already pre-approved.

Do you know for a fact that it is a SP? I heard it was a HP. They have a tendency to do strange things when pulling scores/reports.

I've asked for CLIs several times on the phone and they've never hard pulled. I didn't get a notification that I had a new inquiry on my report, so I assume they haven't hard pulled.

Their FAQ says it's a SP, I also have credit monitoring and nothing popped up.

Dear im_mr_awesome,

Thank you for contacting Capital One regarding your account. Capital One values you as a customer and appreciates your business.

Unfortunately we are not able to give you a credit line increase at this time for the following reason(s):

We are not currently accepting customer initiated credit line increases

We would like to remind you that Capital One is a conservative lender, and that we periodically review every account for eligibility for a credit line increase. If your account receives a credit line increase, the additional limit will become available immediately for you to use and you will see the new limit reflected in your account information within 24 hours.

Should have you need of any further information, please do not hesitate to contact customer service where Peggy who you can barely understand will read from a script and just make up whatever he or she cannot quickly find (we refer to this as the "Magic 8 ball" method of service).

Sincerely,
Capital One

I still hold my Newcomers card and decided to go for this CLI increase button immediately after reading this thread- success!

Like everyone else capped at $750, my results shot it to an instant $1,250. Had a buddy come over a few minutes later with his Cap1 card and got the same results.

Perhaps they're raising some of their own standards? That's cool- though my Cap1 card is still going to be sock-drawered, conservative as they are.

It's always cool to keep your overall utilization down because of a CLI though.
Currently: American Express Blue Sky, American Express Zync, Chase Freedom Visa, Capital One Newcomers--->converted to Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard NO AF

To be honest, I'm glad they weren't doing this two years ago. If they were I probably never would have applied for other cards.

Frustration at being stuck at a 500 limit card (that limit to be honest is damn near unusable for a lot of us) caused me to close it and then apply for better.
