Barclaycard card is horrible!

Postby catsartcox » Thu Jun 20, 2013 3:55 pm

Today I thought I would call to see if my line could be increased. I felt like that on that card my ratio was kinda high. It is a visa card but I only used it for one thing. Financing a Apple laptop for 0% at 12 months. They only gave me a 1.7k limit. The laptop was 1200. I paid it down to now 700.

Anyways I called them and we went through the normal length asking for my annual income. and he submitted it. He said he wanted to review my credit report. I started asking how he got it. It turned out he did a hard inquiry on TU. I swear I did not know this was going to happen. He did not give me the normal scripted talk that they are spoused give - he just did it. To that, I never heard of a company doing a hard inquiry for a CLI right off the bat. I thought the just go through their own records first - maybe do a soft.

Even worse, after this he told me no. He said that because there was two inquires on my account (one AMEX, one theirs). That is to much and said no to my CLI request.

I told them that because of this I will not be using his card anymore. I was not happy of what I heard today. He kept on arguing with me saying that I was wrong that every bank does this. I gave him one last chance before I hung up, I asked if he wanted my business past this laptop I bought a few months ago. He said yes. Then I asked him to show it. he said nope.

I tried hard to be polite, as I knew I was kinda asking for a favor. But he was horrible.
Anyways I'll finish paying back my laptop and then just cut up the card. I am going to try to see if my identity fraud service can remove the inquiry. I think that is one of their services.

Read the terms and conditions. It surely gives them the right to pull credit to review the account if you ask for a change, so there's your warning. Not the bank's fault you don't read what they send you.

That said, it is ****ty behavior to not tell you he's going to.

ALWAYS assume and prepare for a hard pull. Sometimes they even tell you they aren't doing it and they are. Never believe them.

I'd like to see those phone call recordings they claim are for "quality assurance purposes" actually used for that purpose, so if one of them DOES promise they aren't doing a hard pull you call them later to check the call recording.

You asked for a CLI and didn't expect a hard pull? LOL

Almost every lender pulls hard if you ask for a CLI. You may as well have app'd for a new card.

Consider this a lesson.

Wow then I should be thankful they were generous with me when they approved my app after recon. The credit analyst was extremely nice when I called in. I would call in and recon, but as others have said, expect another hard inquiry.

Yeah, it was probably posted in the terms. I mean it had to have been. Otherwise there would have been laws violated.

But like I said, I have never-never seen a bank do a Hard pull for a CLI right off the bat. If a hard pull is done, In my experience, used as a final effort to convince the bank for a CLI. after they reviewed in their own systems.

Though from the barclay rep and you guys are telling me this is not true.

None the less, I'll go through the things with the identity fraud company - however they work.
I guess I would have been ok with it is the hard pull turned into something.

You are right though, I did learn a lesson. Barclay is not the best.

No it's not that Barclay isn't the best, it's just that it's not the best for you(by your standards). I signed up with them and I got a 2k limit off the bat for my iMac. I paid down the limit and within 6 months or billing cycle they gave me an extra 1,000. Just about a week ago which is about a full year they double it to 6k so it has worked perfectly fine for me.

All of these have been auto CLI and SP.

they were very nice to my brother. they gave him the barclay ring card, which was his first credit card while he was an unemployed student, with a 1k limit. and have been bumping the CL by $200 every few months.
Junk I use:
AmEx Platinum for Mercedes Benz from, 75k spending ability
AmEx Everyday 8.99% + Prime, 44k CL
Chase Ink Bold, 35k
Chase Freedom (Converted from WaMu VISA) from '07, 5.99% + Prime, 30k CL

Junk I don't use
BoA Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards (converted from World Points MC) from '07, 7.9% Fixed APR, 30k CL
Discover IT (Converted from Discover More) from '08, 5.74% + Prime, 20k CL
AmEx Clear from '07, 4.99% + Prime, 10k CL
All 3 credit scores are over 800.
