Credit limits on AE Visa

Postby im_mr_awesome » Thu May 23, 2013 3:14 pm

I just logged in to my account to see if I had made my payment yet (they don't have auto pay) and got a message I was eligible to upgrade my American Eagle card to the Visa version from the store version. They upped my limit to $2k and I should have a new card in 7-10 days. Woo! This is kind of a project card for me, as it was my very first credit card and I started with a $150 limit. I'm happy to see GE actually increases limits and offers upgrades, unlike my other retail accounts through Capital One.

The card has a terribly high APR, so I won't use it more than I normally do--about $200 per year, mostly for gifts and I like a few things they have.

Has anyone heard of the highest limits they offer? Just a curiosity thing now.

I actually worked at AE so I do know the ins and outs of both the store and visa cards!

Did they automatically give you the upgrade or did you accept their offer? Either way just fyi, it is going to be a whole new account. Your store card and visa are going to be separate cards with different account numbers, which means they pulled your score. If you upgraded in store, you could have gotten 15% off your purchase... All retail cards have 20.99%+ APRs. Any questions lemme know!

I didn't expect them to do a hard pull, but I had an app spree when I got my new car a few months ago. I have around 15 inquiries right now, so I am even more amazed they gave me the limit they did now I know it was likely a hard pull.

I was very unsure about the new account vs old account thing. I called their CS and was told when I activate the AE Visa the old account will be closed and the balance transferred onto the new card. I thought that was weird, but they did the same thing when I lost my card a few years back.

It has a 23.99% APR, so I will be pretty cautious with this card, especially considering it's now my highest limit Visa card.

Here's the strange thing--just a week ago, I applied for the AE Visa in store and was denied. I got the denial letter in the mail today. I have been a very good AE customer for several years, so it's about time I was rewarded a bit!
