Anyone with less than 3 years of credit history got venture?

Postby Utahnewbie » Wed May 22, 2013 5:39 am

Since it says "Excellent" credit requirement, which needs at least 3 years of credit history. This one is killing me because I only have one and half year's history. Anyone successfully get an "Excellent" required CC without 3 year's credit history either through EO or online app?

Thank you.

With venture they often want you to have an account with them or another card company that has a CL with at least 5k+ min. Dont waste your time or a pull otherwise. Try Chase Freedom first, establish with them. They tend to give go starting limits and timely CL increases. Good luck

I don't know of anyone personally who has any of Cap One's "excellent credit" cards, although I think the user Money Card here has one so maybe he can relate his experience. When I was just starting to really educate myself about credit I applied for the no AF version of the Cap One Cash Rewards card (for "excellent credit). This was when the top tier version of that card was still a World Mastercard and not a Visa Signature, and I only really wanted it for the easy sign up bonus. Got turned down for four or five reasons, but got instantly approved for the Amex Blue Cash Preferred two weeks later. Go figure. FICOs ranged at the time in the 710-730 range. Maybe two inqs across the board in the last six months, and my oldest credit line was over 6 years old, with several accounts being only a year old.

PS - I know this isn't pertinent to your question, but why would you even want either flavor of the Venture card? There are way better 2% cards, and way better travel cards out there, most of which have no annual fee to boot.

With excellent credit, why even get a Cap One card?
AMEX PRG~1/14--backdated to 2012
AMEX BCE~6/13--backdated to 2012
Chase Freedom~5/13
Discover IT ~12/12

Venture is not a bad travel card at all. And their cash rewards card is also competitive at 1.5% across the board.

I had one of their cash rewards cards the one that gives you the 1.5%. I applied having no cards at all after having a few of their 500 limit subprime cards. I was instantly approved online for a 3k limit which shocked me at the time as I didn't think they gave anything more than 500.

Funny thing is, I app'd for this last summer, after I closed my Amex cards. I was declined. I'm grateful for that decline now as it really has no place in my wallet.

I recently received an upgrade to the Venture card. When I called the rep said she hardly ever sees these, and I must have really great credit. My credit line with them is $7500 and I have a balance of like 1k that I have been paying $150 a month on a minimum of $30 for almost a year. My account was opened in 2006, never late.

Capital One, unlike AmEx likes to see a balance and payment history. Most issuing Visa/MasterCard make their money on their monthly interest rate rather than a high annual fee like American Express. If you are paying in full every month then Capital One is not making any money off of you. It's all about the profits and how they can screw the customer.
