Dodge credit card w/ 3x points in 2013 at dealers worth it?

Postby osmond » Sun May 12, 2013 10:57 pm

I was getting service on my Ram truck and the employee at the dealer was telling me about the Dodge Mastercard that gives 3x points at all Chrysler dealers this year. I already have a wallet full and not big on signing up for vanity credit cards but if it's good enough I will do it.

Problem is the application doesn't explain how much the points are worth. I can't find any info anywhere about how much each point is worth. You think these Mastercard points are worth 3 percent or what? dodgecard.com

pass on it, not worth it. Points are can only be earned for 1 year, what about after that?

Stick with rewards from chase, citi and discover cards.

It sounds like you have used this card before?

You don't think it's worth getting the Dodge credit card if for no other reason to get the points at the dealer? I was in there not long ago for a new fuel tank that cost $800. It would have been nice to get those rewards.

I'm mainly a cash back guy, don't travel much and not interested in miles programs.

No, but here is why you should avoid it too. that card is actually issued by First National Bank of Omaha. nothing wrong with that bank, except that they have no partnerships with hotel or frequent flyer programs. any point system not associated with said programs is worthless. you will be much better off with a good cashback card.

Plus, the card's rewards will only ever be good for redemption at Dodge dealerships, similar to the GM Card offered through Chase, which I considered for a hot second since I drive a Chevy (Z06 Corvette, hence the name), but realized that I won't be driving a Chevy forever, so why lock myself into yet another credit card *forever*?

Are you planning on driving Dodge's forever? Cause even if only useful in the near-term, in the interest of your AAoA's, you'd probably be keeping the card for the long-term.

Yeah I drive a Chevy too and considered long and hard about the GM card, but in the end it just wasnt worth it. Even if I do drive a Chevy forever, its still a lose/lose situation because the card is issued by Capital One/HSBC.... shudder....

To the original poster, I agree with avoiding the Dodge credit card. 3 points per dollar doesn't necessarily always equate to 3%. You said you like cash back, try something like the Priceline Visa by Barclays, it gives 2% on everything.
