What level is my Visa credit card? Is it the highest?

Postby pewpew » Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:34 am

Sometime in 2007 I got a Washington Mutual Visa Platinum card. Chase bought WaMu and gave me some regular Chase Visa card in its place. Then it got "upgraded" to a Chase Slate. And now it was "upgraded" yet again to a Chase Freedom VISA Card.

So here is my question, what kind of a VISA card is it? The card doesn't say and nothing in the paperwork gives a hint either. I called Card Services and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I did some research, only found a web site that claims that the VISA Freedom is a VISA Signature card, but that website doesn't look convincing. Anyone here know what kind of VISA it is or how I can find out?

If it turns out to be an actual Signature card, that would be sweet since it inherited the APR and CL of my WaMu card, currently 6.24% APR and $7,500.
Junk I use:
AmEx Platinum for Mercedes Benz from, 75k spending ability
AmEx Everyday 8.99% + Prime, 44k CL
Chase Ink Bold, 35k
Chase Freedom (Converted from WaMu VISA) from '07, 5.99% + Prime, 30k CL

Junk I don't use
BoA Susan G. Komen Cash Rewards (converted from World Points MC) from '07, 7.9% Fixed APR, 30k CL
Discover IT (Converted from Discover More) from '08, 5.74% + Prime, 20k CL
AmEx Clear from '07, 4.99% + Prime, 10k CL
All 3 credit scores are over 800.

It's only a Visa Signature if the word "Signature" appears on the card by the Visa mark. Otherwise, it's most likely a Visa Platinum.

If it doesn't have the word "Signature" under the visa logo in the front, take a guess what it's not.

I find it hard to believe cs didn't know if your card was a signature card or not. But like everyone says, if it doesn't say "SIGNATURE" right below where the "VISA" logo is, then it is not a signature card.

On a side note though, and I bring this up because of your CL of $7,500, but usually you reach signature status at the $5,000 mark for most higher end credit cards in the visa signature program. I know this to be true for the Sapphire. Are you sure Freedom comes in signature?

Yes it does. I called CS again, they said that I am not eligible for the Signature card. I stopped using this card when Chase bought WaMu. I decided to go back to using this card when BoA cut my credit line on my Platinum Plus World Point card all the way down to 2.5k, making it useless for me.

but I find all this strange since I was just approve for the sapphire card and that one IS a Signature VISA with a 10k line.

Normally I don't give a rats rear about the branding of the card, but I will be going on vacation soon and was going to try this rental insurance thing that comes with Visa Signature.

Yes they do. Getting chase to admit to it is the fun part.

Then you were lied to by someone - it is not true that it only comes as a "Signature" card.

Ugh we constantly hear conflicting and incorrect information from the CSRs at the big banks, maybe its because they're incredibly bureaucratic in their policies and procedures, or maybe they're just too cheap to train their agents, or maybe the agents don't bother themselves to check the accuracy of the information because they're being paid minimum wage. So frustrating!

The Freedom comes in Platinum and Signature. Chase will only issue a Signature on CL's of $5,000 or more; although having a limit of $5,000 or more does not mean you will have signature.

As someone else said, if you have Signature, you would see the words "Signature" under the Visa logo. The Visa Signature logo will be holographic (metalic) material. If you just have a Visa Platinum, you will only have the Visa logo in white.

Also, I am not sure if Chase changed your WaMu account number or not, but the regular Chase issued Visa #'s usually begin 4266 and Signature begins 4147. Obviously if Chase did not give you a new number this will not help you.
