Is the BofA Travel Rewards a Visa Signature or not?

Postby Torontonian » Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:01 am

The travel rewards card from BoA , the website does not mention that it is a Visa signature card.

I had my card swapped to the travel rewards a few weeks ago.

Today I logged in to pay my bill and see that the card name is now signature travel rewards.

I did read here that signature cards with BoA don't report credit limits properly, just called them and asked them to convert it back to the old non signature version.

Can someone please confirm if there is a non Visa signature version of this card ?

It's hard to say. One thing for sure is that if you had the Mastercard version (like I do), this wouldn't be a problem.
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

You have to understand that most reward cards are now going to be Visa Signature or World MasterCard. The reason? Because the higher level the card, the higher swipe fee the bank collects.

If you are credit worthy and have a solid credit score, you will get the Visa Signature version. It is deceiving because on all of the marketing material, they simply show the Visa version and not Visa Signature.

But, is the credit line not reporting that big of a deal? Do you have other cards that report a credit line? Up until recently Citibank and Chase did not report the limits on their higher level card but have since changed. BofA may begin to report limits at anytime.

You could always call them and ask to be downgraded to a Platinum Plus version of the card. If they accept the downgrade, you will likely get a new account number starting with 4264.

Its just 14 months since I moved to the US as a result of a work transfer. I m from Canada.

I got a plain secured visa from BoA with an 8K limit in Jan 2012. Last month they sent me a check for 8K and unsecured the account.

I believe my credit score is good, but short. Always paid in full.

My other card is a premier rewards gold, which I believe reports similarly.

I did not want both my card reporting "wrong" numbers, hence called them and asked them to revert to the old plain card. I do plan to get this one once the reporting changes.

Ah. I saw Torontonian but also Plano, TX so I didn't put the two together. I can understand now why you would want the Visa to report the limit.

So did they change the account back to a Platinum Plus version or just a plain Visa card?

They said they are changing back to the platinum plus visa. That was what I had before.

By the way, do you know if the Chase sapphire preferred card also has the same reporting issue ? I got a mailed in offer a couple weeks ago.

Oh good. Hopefully Bank of America will get on board and report limits the way Citibank and Chase have.

Chase does report the credit line of their Visa Signature and World MasterCards so you would be good to go with the Sapphire Preferred.

I called BoA about 2 weeks ago about having my credit limit reporting to my credit report and they told be they will investigate on that matter and mail me the results. I got the letter about 4 days ago with the being somewhere along the lines of
"We do not report credit access line due to adverse effects that may result in your credit report in the event you report a balance above your access line"
Go figure.

BoA had opened a case because of this. The email with the case number had a direct number, I just spoke to them.

Now they will new send me a platinum visa with the travel rewards features in two to four weeks.

So , I now have three cards coming.

Does anyone know if you can get this card in a Mastercard form?
