what do you people think about this particular Barclays card?

Postby Money card » Sat Jan 12, 2013 9:39 pm

on saturday January the 12 I was at the palisades mall with my friend who is also my accountant he had his kids with him. we went into a few stores, I was talking to him about his capitol1 venture card 2 miles card, he said to me that he got in the mail an offer from
Barclays bank he showed me the information it says you get 2 points per dollar spent
from gas to grocerys to dining out 2 on everything, I didn't notice if there was a foreign transaction fee but I did notice the annual fee is 85.00 capitol1 is only 59.00
it's a master card have you people ever heard of this card? I wll say it's a travel card
I'm wondering what anybody thinks about this barclays travel card with the 85 annual fee?
is this card reviewd on the forum somewhere?

This is probably the Barclaycard Arrival card, which comes in two versions, with AF and without. Your friend was talking about the AF version

This card gives an extra 10% when used for travel redemptions, so equivalent to 2.2% back on all purchases if used this way.

But the Barclays Priceline with no AF gives 2% on everything (and more on some types of Priceline transactions) so not sure why this card would justify the AF. (And for that matter, the Priceline card is superior to Cap One Venture as it has the same benefit with no AF!)

Note: there are several versions of Priceline, some which give only 1%, a good link is:

Hi Silver6054 is the priceline card a travel card or is it a cashback card? if the priceline is a cash back card, which card do you think
is better the Barclay travel card or the Capitol1 venture card?

It's a cashback card, but so really is the venture. With Venture, you are not getting miles on an airline or hotel, it's just a cash equivalent, unlike say CSP or a straight airline card such as Citi AA. So with a fee it seems worse than priceline. (A good sign up bonus might change this for a year). And the Barclays travel card is the same sort of thing, with a fee it and depositing it gives a slightly higher rate, 2.2. For very heavy travel, that .2 difference might make up for the fee, but for most it won't.

Don't pay fees for "fake" travel cards that give cash back around 2%. Cards that give real miles might be worth it, but there are free 2% cashback cards.
