Ok I was just curious. I like Chase, doubt I'll try to get back in with them but I'd never say never. If it happens it would be in 6 months, I can't app now or Barclaycard will go all AA on me and I'd like to keep their card if possible since I took the hit for it. But in 6 months, if I do app, Chase will be the bank most likely. Or the US Bank Flex Perks. Or both.

FlexPerks? Why man? I've got two of them and the rewards are awful, and you already have the Cash+. Just curious...

Someone on the FICO forum was claiming the Flexperks at a 2% all around reward rate was superior to the Cash +. I don't know, haven't used it, I only have the Cash + which to me is the best card I have. (And if I have to pick only one, that would be it).

Whether that's true or not I don't really know. They claim the Flexperks rewards are out of whack. Some say the same about the Cash +. I guess if I decide I really want another card I'll look at the rewards the Flexperks offer and see if it's as good as claimed. You say they aren't, so maybe that guy on FICO is wrong? Is it 2% straight across the board? Or is that just part of the story?

I was pretty skeptical, but after reviewing their site this morning it does seem like the Flex Perks Travel Rewards Visa Signature is actually a pretty good deal. They do indeed give you a straight 2% return if redeemed for travel rewards. Unfortunately they don't give any basis for calculation of cash/gift card rewards, but they do say you can redeem the annual 3500 point bonus (with $24k spend) to avoid the annual fee. If that same ratio is used for cash rewards (which I honestly doubt, but can't say for sure) then that would valuate each point at 1.4 cents, which is still a great return. What appears to be an automatic doubling of your points on your highest spend category per month (fine print: out of airlines, gas, and groceries) plus telecommunication expenses is definitely a nice touch as that could put that category at up to 4% return. This wouldn't be the card for me because I don't travel much, and as such I wouldn't make it my primary card, which is what the rewards structure definitely encourages you to do.

Thanks for the greet reply there that is really helpful.

I guess that wouldn't be something I would go for based on that either Rat, requiring that spending, but 2% is a great return. Then again, Discover Escape is pretty much the same - a straight 2%. And it gives primary rental insurance.

I just wanted to re-iterate to folks, if you apply for and get a Barclaycard card, for your own sake do NOT poke the bear. They do NOT like to see more apps and new accounts for 6 months when you are a new customer of theirs. Whether this is right or wrong isn't what I'm saying, I have my own opinion on that, I'm just letting folks know that app'ing within that first 6 months is poking the bear with them whether we agree with it or not. Some people have done it and had nothing happen, others have been CLD'd or even had their accounts closed. So YMMV yet again, but if it helps someone to know this, great that's what I'm shooting for here.

Personally I'm just a LITTLE concerned with their reaction when my new Target card reports and my new Discover reports (based on past experience) in about 2 months from now. I could ask them to check the report they pulled where they will see the Target pull but Discover is on EQ (which they like to pull for new applications) and thus Barclaycard will not see that I app'd for it before I app'd with them in January or February when it reports. I guess if anything happens I'll recon it as high as I can, and if that doesn't work, honestly, it was my lowest limit major credit card by far anyway.....

But the good thing about this is, I won't be apping for anything else for a while (6 months, or if Barclaycard closes me down then probably sooner). So if that's what it takes to get you out of app mode, Barclaycard can be a good thing!

Bad news - I had asked Elan to close my Associated Bank Platinum and re-open with a new number as I felt the number might be compromised. They did that and it shows as a NEW ACCOUNT. As many of you know that is a HUGE red flag with Barclaycard. I supposed if I really cared about Barclaycard I'd have to leave it open and compromised, but seriously is a 2k limit card worth that? Not to me.

So I won't be surprised when they out of the blue close the account now and I guess since I will eventually have Target and Discover reporting too, I might just as well go for whatever cards I'm interested in and not worry about what Barclaycard does.

I'll report back when they close the account.

You already have way better, FB.

I thought about it, really thought about it, and realized that Barclaycard won't like that I got a replacement card IF it appears to them as a new account. And then I realized you know what, if Big Brother is that worried about that, then close the damn account and be done with it. They may do nothing but all you have to do is Google "Barclaycard closed my account" and you'll get a real eye opener. They have a history of closing people down (as always YMMV). Again they may do nothing, if not that's cool, I'll keep the card, but I'm just saying it isn't going to give me sleepless nights or anything.

So in that spirit I app'd for the FIA Amex, anyone have experience with that one? I liked the idea of the money going into the 401k, and it being a 2% card.

I'm not sure why you didn't opt for the 2% Priceline Visa, it seems like a better offer than the 1% MC.

FIA has better customer service than Barclaycard, and the Fidelity Amex works with Amex promotions like Amex Sync and $25 back on Small Business Saturday.

I went for the Mastercard because I didn't have one, besides my debit card, so I wanted a Mastercard instead of another Visa. Rewards wise it does seem Priceline is better.

Ok, so, I mentioned in another thread that I had app'd for the FIA Retirement Amex (2% rewards) yesterday. Today they gave me a ring and I knew that was a good sign, as I've said, they don't call you if there is no way you are going to get the card.

So I talked with the rep, and he asked me about employment info, and once he was satisfied he said congratulations you're approved for 10k and you will be getting the card in 7 to 10 days.

I guess if Barclaycard isn't happy about that, I can live with it. I'd hate to have them close my account just because I wouldn't want an entry that says "Account closed by credit issuer" in there, but if anyone asks I'll just explain that Barclaycard just doesn't like it if you open other accounts after opening one with them, and don't take my word for that, Google it and see all the hits on the subject you get. As long as I keep my credit clean I truly doubt it would hurt me, I just would prefer it not happen. Then I'd also want to get a Mastercard, maybe if that does happen I'll see if I can't get a Chase Freedom even if it's only 2k that's all Barclaycard gave me so what the heck!
