Want new cards

Postby agp » Wed Nov 21, 2012 6:03 pm

I was going to apply for the Chase Ink Bold and Ink Plus, use each once, and get 25K points from each card. But Chase got rid of the deal :( Now it's just spend $5K and get 50k points.

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Why stop at 25k? With just a little creativity, you could get 50k from each.

I didn't want to tie down ten thousand dollars in gift cards just to get the $500 sign up bonus... I guess I'll have to wait until the deal comes back.

I'm open to suggestions.
Is having a family member/trusted friend send me a Paypal/Amazon invoice for $5K one of the ways?

PayPal tacks on 2.9% + $0.30 fee, so it is not worth it (plus PayPal withholds your money for at least 21 days).

Amazon Payment does not charge interchange fee if you log in and sent the money, but imposes $500 send limit.

Plus there is the question of whether Chase allows 2 apps on business cards.

Discover it (07/2012) | AMEX BCP (09/2012) | TD/Target REDCard (10/2012) | Chase Ink Classic (11/2012)
BofA BBR (04/2013) | FNBO/Overstock.com (02/2014) | Barclaycard Arrival (04/2014) | FIA/Fidelity AMEX (04/2014)

Chase allows it if you have a reason. I suggest saying you want to separate PIF expenses from pay-over-time.

Amazon imposes a $1000 limit per month, not $500. That covers $3k right there. (Chase considers AP to be a purchase as opposed to a cash-advance.) If you have three AP accounts, you can send $3k from each card to the third account. I only have two accounts, but only have one card to spend on.

Vanilla reloads onto Bluebird still work, though not at 5x points anymore. Available at CVS and Walgreens, but you may have to find a store that lets you pay with CC. Bluebird offers billpay to Chase credit cards. There's a way to get over 3x points on Vanillas if you are willing to throw an extra step in there.

Prepay internet, cellphone, cable bills at 5x points.

Square charges less than Paypal if you get desperate.

Those are just the easy ones.

It really boils down to how much you think those 100k UR points are worth to you.

100K UR points is worth $1000 to me, no more, no less. If I don't go out buying things I do not need, my monthly spending is $500 +/- $100. My rent is paid by check. So there's no sense for me to go out of my way to move $10,000 around just for (technically) 10% cash back.

I have no idea what Vanilla is. And is BlueBird the Amex card?

If UR points are nothing but cash back to you, we're done here.
