Bank Of America Online Payments?

Postby CC Deville » Sun Nov 04, 2012 9:41 am

It appears that BofA is changing the way that cardholder's make payments online to their BofA credit cards. I used to be able to click the "Make Payment" button that would take me to a screen that listed my two BofA cards. I would click the card I wanted to pay; enter the amount of the payment and it would automatically come out of my 3rd party bank checking account. Worked the way it was supposed to and how every other bank works.

As of yesterday when I click the "Make Payment" button, they make you sign up for their Bill Pay service. When I think of Bill Pay I think of using my bank checking account to make payments to the water and power company etc. So I email them and they say only that they are making changes to Bill Pay and that you can add your outside bank to make payments yadda yaddah...

Long story short, I had to add my checking account info to Bill Pay. Despite the fact that this is the same checking account I have used for years...they are making me go through the process of verifying the account with "several small deposits" made over the next three days...Judah's freaking Priest!!!

Anyway, I always pay my account before the cycle date so that it does not report with a balance...tomorrow is the cycle date...nice of them to alert cardholder's of this change.

Anybody else seeing this change?

Thanks for the info. I just checked over there, I don't even have pay options because I haven't used that credit card in a while. I'll throw something on it sometime just to keep it active.

Yeah....their online bill pay was always a little weird...mostly because both of my BofA cards are different from what they originally were...so my Accelerated Cash Rewards Amex was called Visa Signature and my Cash Rewards Visa Signature was called Visa Gold but the last 4 digits were correct.....the old system would allow me to make the payment even though the account(s) had not cycled.

I am normally BofA's biggest cheerleader, but this recent change has me stumped.....

Same here. For a long time all I had to do was click a few buttons and I was done. Now they want me to open a BOA checking account? I'll just push them through from my Wells Fargo billpay portal.

No, they are not forcing anybody to open a BofA checking account. There is a tab within Bill Pay called Pay From that allows you to enter your 3rd party bank checking information. The only trouble is that they make you go through the verification process. So over the next few days they will deposit like $0.01 or $0.02 and withdraw $0.01 from my 3rd party bank account. Once I verify that these transactions occured, my checking account will be verified and I will be able to make payments online again.

I hope that this is just a random thing and they will change it back. It makes no sense at all and if others are not aware and wait until the last minute to try to make an online payment it will cause them some grief. I may call their Billing Technical Support later to see if I am doing something wrong or if this is a real, ongoing change....ugh.

Okay...here is the 411 (I finally called them)...

If you ONLY have a BofA credit card (and you do NOT have a BofA checking), you will still be able to make payments as you do now.

If, like me, you only had a BofA credit card and then LATER opened a BofA checking account, you will now need to pay through their Bill Pay service. You may still add a 3rd party bank account in which to make these payments once your 3rd party bank account has been verified. The CSR explained that the bank recently performed an audit and found a handful of customers such as myself with both products that were not using Bill Pay and are now requiring that we enroll in Bill Pay.

If you ALWAYS had BOTH a BofA checking and BofA credit card account, you probably always did pay using their Bill Pay.

So false alarm...most of you probably just have the credit card and you should see no changes. This probably only impacted a few people such as myself as most people with a BofA checking account would pay their BofA credit card with it. I use an outside, out-of-state bank for my primary checking......The CSR happily offered a no fee phone payment to me which I accepted.
