Ink Bold vs. Ink Plus - What's the difference?

Postby agp » Sat Nov 03, 2012 10:49 am

Both offer the same rewards and same conditions... what's the difference between the two cards?

Main Card: Amex Platinum
For gas: Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards
For travel & dining: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Ink Bold is a charge card with payment in full required every month.
Ink Plus is a credit card which allows payments over time.

Both has annual fee. It is Ink Classic and Cash that does not have AF.

Annual fee is waived for the first year, though.

I applied for a Chase Ink! Bold today for the 50,000 bonus UR points. With both EQ and EX frozen, they pulled TU, which is my best looking report, and approved a $5k flexible limit.

The reason I applied for the card was twofold - I wanted the bonus and the ability to earn major points using the Vanilla Reload/Amex Bluebird (hereinafter V/B) combo for an upcoming trip to Europe; and, I wanted to keep business expenses separated from personal. The bonus categories are very complementary to my other cards. Airport lounge access is a nice perk.

But the V/B combo is killer. I can now get 5x points for paying rent and utilities where I couldn't before. That alone is an extra 6000 points a month - 72,000 a year - for money I'm already spending.

I'm thinking keep it for a year, PC to the Classic before the fee hits, and apply for the Plus for a new bonus.

Did you get instant approval? I had to call in twice for Ink Classic. First call was no good (too many accounts and INQs). Second call asked couple questions about the business, then approved me for $3,000 (same limit on my Freedom card).

Would've apply Ink Cash had it use UR mall (which it does not).

You cannot PC Bold into any other Ink card since it is a charge card.

I guess I won't PC then. No biggie. I applied online and got a "needs review" message. I called in immediately and went through what sounds like the standard interrogation that everyone gets. It was approved on the phone.

They asked a few questions. No biggie.

I don't recommend PCs on cards because you miss out on the sign-up bonus.

It would have been a PC to a no-fee card and a new app for a new bonus. Regardless, if I can't PC, I can't PC.

OK, I'm thinking about getting the Plus when the Bold fee comes due then dropping the Bold but I guess I could move to the Classic instead. Hmm.
