I have both Visa Signature and American Express The Platinum Card and I can honestly say, Visa Signature is on par if not better than the Platinum service. The Visa Signature concierge have gone out of their way to make my life easier.

I got upgraded to a visa signature card, the benefits look nice but I'm not sure how much I'll be taking advantage of them.

From which bank?

I have a Visa Signature from BofA, Chase and Nordstrom and I honestly do not see any difference between Platinum and Signature-except that Chase and BofA no longer report my credit line....

I have yet to use the concierge service from any of the banks.

BofA. I have had the cash rewards card a while and I saw they were starting to move to the 1-2-3% cash back program. I didn't want to be stuck with a flat 1% rewards card unnecessarily so I called them. I wasn't sure if the program change was automatic.

After making sure my card was going to be of the 1-2-3% variety, I was asked if I wanted to change from the Platinum to the Signature, and I said sure. The person at BofA said he could only put a note in my account asking for it (?), but on my new statement it says Signature where the BofA logo used to be, and I was told to expect a new card soon with a new account number (not sure why) and the concierge number on the back.

I'm all set for the concierge now after reading this. Practically, I may use it for getting directions if my phone battery dies and I get lost. The extra warranty program is nice too.

In terms of features, I don't think it makes a difference which bank gives the Signature as it is administered by Visa rather than the card issuer, though as you say some banks won't report the credit line with it.

.

I saw that new 1-2-3% cash back BankAmericard. I had a Visa Signature through them and they offered me the Accelerated Cash Rewards American Express and I took it. 1.25% on everything. I think the new 1-2-3% cash rewards is a better deal.

Why are you getting a new account number? Because BofA is very BIN specific. A BIN is the first 6 digits of any account number. BofA's Visa Signature accounts always start with the same digits. So I would bet that they will send you a Visa with the number 4313 07. I had a BofA Visa Gold before they bought MBNA. MBNA basically still issues the cards under the BofA (FIA Card Services) name. But when my BofA Visa Gold expired they sent me a new one with a new account number, because all MNBA (FIA Card Services) Visa Gold cards started 4800. A year later they upgraded it to a Visa Signature with the 4313 07 BIN. So that one card has had three account numbers in the past 10 years.

I basically see Signature and World cards as a marketing ploy. It allows the bank to receive the highest interchange fees from the merchants and that is why they are so popular on reward cards. You have a point about concierge being able to help with certain things. I have not had to use that yet but it is nice to know it is there.

Anyway, congrats on your 1-2-3% upgrade. Sounds like a great deal.

It depends on spending patterns, but I like the new program. Also, depositing the bonus into a BofA checking account adds 10% to the bonus (25 points = $27.50), so that means 1.1-2.2-3.3% rewards. it's a pretty good deal I think.

I see. My original account was with Fleet Bank before BofA took over.

I don't know how many times it changed, but my current card's BIN is 488893. According to Binbase.com it's a FIA Platinum. Funny, it doesn't say platinum on the card, just BankAmericard Cash Rewards. Of course it doesn't say FIA either.

I basically see Signature and World cards as a marketing ploy.

No question they are there to drive up interchange fees, but those interchange fees are worked into the price of goods anyway. I'm paying them even if I pay cash in most instances, so I might as well get the best rewards I can find.

Anyway, congrats on your 1-2-3% upgrade. Sounds like a great deal.

Thanks. I think it's a good deal, though I miss the days of 5% gas cards regardless of season. Especially now with the banks just coming back from being bailed out, its nice to see good rewards programs out there.

The next time I travel by air, I plan to call them up with my itinerary and see if they can find a better deal.

Mogul of Pineapples wrote:Has anyone used the concierge feature on the Signature cards? They say there's a concierge avail 24/7. What can you use it for? They say dinner reservations. Does that mean they can get you in a booked restaurant liked American Express concierge can? I haven't heard from one person out there that has used this service. I'd like to know if it's actually useful or just an added feature which doesn't really benefit you.

hey mogul you can use it for sporting events, let's say you live in Chicago and you want Rangers redwings at the garden they can help make travel arangements, help you make dinner resorvations, let's say you want to get somebody a gift but you don't know what to get them the concierge will certainly be able to help out.
