Bank of America BS

Postby Rory » Thu Sep 06, 2012 3:21 am

SO today i went to my local branch deposited a few bucks and then talked with one of their personal bankers to help me push through a upgrade to my student platinum plus visa card. I wanted to get the bank americard privileges cash rewards. So we did all the necessary information exchanges and when it came time to talk with the credit analyst she told me i was denied since i was still an undergraduate and was only allowed 1 credit card from them.

So i explained that i was attempting to upgrade my card (which they no longer offer and which has no reward system) and she went on further to explain that i must then pay off and cancel my student card and then apply for the new card.

So i hung up and went about doing all of that only to get put on hold pending a review from the credit analyst and after 17 minutes of waiting they told me they would call me back that day.

So a long story short, i have not received a call from them today and i am seeking advice. My scores are all above 715 and i have had a great history with BOA. I am slightly pissed and wondering if anyone else has heard of this 1 credit card for undergrads policy and could shed some light on possible avenues for success in my situation.

Thanks guys

BOA sometime is pain on the behind. My wife have had her BOA Plat Plus with a yearly fee science 08 or 07, called them few months ago, to see if it can be upgraded to BANKAMERI card, and was turned down. So come next year will be canceling her card. Yes she will loose 2 or 3 years of credit history, as this is her 1st card, but told her not to worry, coz she is a AU on my AMX since 2010, so when she gets her own AMX she will be ok.

Student cards may be a different story, but in general if you've applied for a card with FIA Card Services and got a denial letter, you can try to recon and split the CL with another card.

Sounds like a company-level decision. Hopefully they'll upgrade you since you cancelled your old card.

I was told the exact same thing by BofA. I closed my student card and opened the 1-2-3 Cash Rewards card. They gave me a much higher APR though, so be aware.

Did you apply for the new card after your card was canceled? If not, you have to in order to be approved for the new card.

it all went as planned just took twice as long and was in the dark for virtually the entire process. Got myself the bank americard cash rewards privileges platinum visa signature. Goddamn that it a mouth-full but still a nice looking card with decent cash back and 50% bonues cash back when i deposit straight to my bank of america checking account

That's a decent rewards card, but not sure if the $75 fee is worth it just for the 50% bonus.

There is no "platinum visa signature", you have either a platinum visa or a visa signature.
