How to get a World Elite MasterCard?

Postby m20e3087 » Thu May 10, 2012 4:01 pm

Is there anyway one can upgrade Citi Master world to a world elite? Has anyone done it, or have world elite with Citi?

I called customer service to have my Dividend World upgraded to a Dividend World Elite MasterCard on 4/24. They say it takes 45 days to complete (so I should know by mid-June). I don't know yet if it is a go or if they have to review the account and then either approve the request or decline it. Just some background: the account is 12 years old, I have around an 800 FICO score and up until recently it was my main card (but only $1K per month spend on average). So I am hoping they will upgrade it. If your account number starts 5424 18 know that it will change to a 5466 16 account number.

Best bet would be to call customer service and ask for an Account Manager straight off the bat to save yourself some hassle.

I only requested it to get the EMV chip (Citibank calls it Global Chip) which supposedly is not yet available on basic World Dividend cards. The added benefits of World Elite with no annual fee is a bonus. Plus it should have the metalic MasterCard logo instead of the orange/yellow one.

@CC thank you for you response. Mine also starts with 5424 18, been with them for 7 years, and FICO is 717. I did carry balance for several months, and just paid them off them off this week. Maybe I will wait until next week to call. Does it matter what is the credit limit? Mine is 11K.and 8K.

Doesn't matter, as long as you pay on time and keep you utilization low. Just spend plenty and pay faithfully for Citi to be a happy bank.

You would need at least $5K to qualify for World Elite so you should be good. No need to wait either, especially since it takes 45 days. But seriously, ask for an Account Manager. Don't even deal with the front line CSR's especially if you detect an accent.....

Which one of your MasterCards are you going to request the upgrade on?

I want to do both if they allow, and if not I will do the Diamond Preferred.

Called them this morning, and the manger doesn't know how to upgrade. Called again the guy said I am not eligible. Call MasterCard directly, they said the same thing. He said I need to upgrade to a whole new card. By the way do you happen to remember the name of the manager you spoke to. Also is there fee with Elite card? They were offering Elite cards with fees.

While we are on the topic, is Citi World Elite MasterCard a charge card? I'm just confused since on their website says 'no preset spending limit'.

Actually found the answer:
Your account does not have a pre-set spending limit, but this does not mean unlimited spending. Each charge that causes your new balance to exceed your revolving credit limit will be evaluated based on account usage and performance, other account relationships with us, if applicable, and your experience with other creditors. You must pay in full each month on any amount that exceeds your revolving credit limit.

Interesting.

I saw this topic, and I was oh sweet I could upgrade my DP Citi card, but I called and the Account Manager in Missouri, who literally told me she was located in Missouri 5 times, said that DP cards cannot be upgraded, so I would have to apply for another card.

Oh geez. Typical. See, that is similar to my experience in that all I wanted was that stupid EMV chip but my World wasn't eligible. Only World Elite so I put in for the upgrade. So, only certain cards are eligible for the EMV chip and apparently only certain cards are eligible for World Elite.

I know they offer the following cards as World Elite: Dividend, AAdvantage, Cash Returns, Thank You.

So the Account Manager wouldn't allow a PC change to a Thank You card so that you could get World Elite? Citibank likes to blame CARD ACT on not being able to do things anymore. It used to be that you could call Citibank and they would change your account to a different program and even from Visa to MasterCard and vice versa. Now they say "oh due to Card Act we can longer do that." Pure BS.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.
