Bank of America secured to unsecured credit card upgrade?

Postby dotexe » Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:31 am

I recently got an upgrade for my secured BofA platinum visa credit card (1K limit) to BofA Cash Rewards CC.

The secured credit card will graduate to unsecured at the end of this month. Hopefully I get good CL increase and they release my 1K.

I see BofA is offering $100 signup bonus for new customers. I checked with CSR if they could offer me $100 as I converted to cash rewards (new to cash rewards), but was denied twice (I got the upgrade 3 weeks back and I tried for bonus twice within weeks). The reason for denial is $100 bonus does not apply to converted accounts.

Is there any possibility I can get the $100 bonus from them? Please note my BofA Cash rewards is secured until end of this month. Any advice/suggestions, please welcome.

Thanks!

Bonus offers like that are generally for new customers only. If you have already been told no than I would bet that the decision stands.

I recently received an upgrade for my Bank of America Visa Signature with World Points to the BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa Signature. The account will be 11 in May and I did not receive the bonus offer either-nor did I expect one.

Just a word of advice, I wouldn't push it and contact them too often. I have seen way too many people on these credit boards end up with closed accounts or reduced credit limits by contacting BofA.They seem to do on-the-spot reviews of accounts anytime they have contact with you. They were doing this during the Great Recession (2008-2009) and they seem to have started up again. I personally have never had a problem with them and they have treated me right over the years-but I don't make it a habit of contacting them either.

Thanks CCD. Card graduates end of this month. I expect them to give a CL increase or if not I don't know when is the right time to ask them. I used their credit card for one year. Maybe totally I would have spent 7K in 12 months.

Usually most banks like six months in between credit line increases. Most people do get a small increase once the card graduates. If so, then in six months you should be able to request a CLI online. I have heard mixed answers if this would be a hard inquiry or soft but on the safe side expect a hard inquiry. Totally worth it to get a CLI.
