im not sure what the minimum income requirement would be. I put in for $24,000 and was rejected. Im a college student btw but i travel quite often hence why i went for the card. but somebody with more credit history might have a better chance at it. I only have a 1.5 years under my belt haha. i was rejected due to insufficient income along with not enough credit history so they couldnt take the risk on me for a $5,0000 credit limit
Wells Fargo Student Credit Card Visa - $1300 (February 2011)

It probably is higher. I have no idea what the minimal income gross salary from all household income has to be.That's why I guessed.

There are probably a lot of people who do have this card, they use it for travel.

For people who shop, you see a lot of people using the Freedom card.

perhaps its your rather small credit history?

maybe you should apply for delta skymiles card? or united, since its now the biggest airline in the country.
Cards in my wallet:
-Citi Forward Card for College Students-July 2011
-American Express Platinum Delta Skymiles--July 2013

FWIW....I'm in a special situation I know that, so this may just be irrelevant.

I'm a student and have 0 annual income (except for dividends), but a 100k portfolio.

Chase kinda gave me the runaround after 3 separate branches told me I was preapproved but they denied me...so they upgraded my chase freedom to the sapphire preferred.

They basically screwed me out of the 40k bonus...F that...oh well, the metal composition blows me away

But, I also have a near perfect credit score...

I think they gave me a 9k limit after they "upgraded" my card...

I recently went on an app spree (4:4!). I'm at $30k and I was approved ($5000). So I'm tempted to believe that this is the true minimum, based on the $24k story below. Maybe it rolls with credit history? My AAoA was ~4 years when I applied. Approval was instant.

At the time, I had:
BoA Plat Rewards - $1200 (08/07) at 32% (my payments hadn't posted for October for some reason)
USAA Plat MC - $500 (10/07) at 6.6%
USAA auto loan, cosigned, about 40% remaining on $8500 (03/09)

I was subsequently also approved for an Amex Green (also instant) and a Discover More ($1500).

My FAKOs on USAA and CreditKarma are ~730, but I've never checked my FICOs.

Chase and Amex pulled Ex, Discover pulled TU.

I'm assuming it was my loan, AAoA ~4 years and 0 negatives that let everybody overlook my smallish income and lack of any high-limit cards. Discover did want to chat with me, though.

I think when I got my Marriott and Hyatt cards(both Visa Signatures), my score was around 733-740. The income I put at the time was $16300, but my rent was super cheap($150), so that helped greatly. Hope this helps a bit.
Favorite Cards:
Amex BCP: $9000
Amex PRG(NPSL)
Discover IT: $5700
Hyatt: $5000
Chase Freedom: $4500

Occasional Use:
Barclaycard Arrival(no fee): $3300

Rarely Used:
Marriott Premier Rewards: $5200
Citi DoubleCash: $2000
Cap 1 Secured: $750

When I received the instant approval for my CSP with a $5k limit, I listed $30k as my income and I am also a student with significant student loans that are still going to increase in the next year. I had a Freedom with a $1500 limit that I had only had one statement cut on before I apped for CSP and I was pleasantly surprised with my result. Hope my situation provides a point of reference.

AmEx ED: $4500 (02/15)
AmEx PRG: NPSL (02/15)
AmEx SPG: $2000 (06/15)
Capital One QS: $3250 (02/13)
Marriott: $5000 (01/16)
Ritz Carlton: $13,500 (09/15)
TCL: $34,750 (Some not shown above)

I think people worry too much about scores. Only way you know if you can get a card is if you apply. Maintain good credit and low utilization ratios and you'll be fine.

At first I got rejected for credit cards. Then I wound up qualifying for cards and worked up the ladder from regular plain cards, I never had a secured card. Went from regular tier to platinum to visa signature and world MasterCard.

I never even knew my score in the old days before banks started giving them out for free. I just kept keeping utilization ratios down and paid my bills on time.

Others say Sapphire isn't so great but I have the free version and like the card and perks and the card itself. Haven't seen any free cards that are better. Chase is large and has the highest rated service and has some features like Chase lounge at MSG events and the like one could use.
